Can a game truly be considered preserved if it doesn't have at least 30 development builds dumped?

Someday an AI will be developed to create the perfect basketball game, and it will need to analyze all of the development builds of NBA Action Starring David Robinson.

>he didn't preserve the post-it notes around the lead programmer's monitor
Never gonna make it.

What about voice acting sessions?

I wonder which SNES game has the most dumped builds.

>> No.6168954

they are not even close, some of them get to 3 or even a little more if you group the betas of the different regions together, but no more than that. But the Genesis has plenty of games with a lot of beta builds, aside from the game in the OP, Berenstain bears has like 20 betas, Batman & Robin 11, Crystal Pony Tale has 15, etc. I don't know if this is due to the developers or just some very autistic dumpers

this shit is cool. imagine if your most favorite game had this many builds you could flip through and see little changes.

Not even close. I game can't be considered preserved unless it includes high resolution scans of the toe nail clippings the programmers made while waiting for shit to compile.

Pretty sure a lot of it is due to the backup of the Sega internal archive. For SNES games, yeah, off the top of my head I know Rockman X3 has 3 builds as does The Lion King. Beyond that I'm not sure.

How, where, and why does stuff like this even surface from?

western vs japanese development habits. most genesis games were made by westerners due to Nintendo's near monopoly on Japanese developers, while most SNES games were made by the Japanese.

>> No.6172502

I guess they only include those builds because someone got their hands on them so why not?

I actually have a Minidisc with the voice acting session for Hey You, Pikachu on it. Guessing it is one of the originals based on the seller having sold some unique Nintendo items in the past (strongly suspect he either worked for Nintendo or a sister company). I've yet to listen to the whole thing, but it has spoken notations in it beyond the raw Pikachus.

I don't think they're essential but I don't think they should be discarded and if the opportunity to archive them arises then people should take it.

Yes. Betakiddies be like
>OMG A NEW SONIC 2 PROTOTYPE DATED TWO DAYS AFTER THIS OTHER ONE FAPFAPFAPFAP
>oh lol 20 prototypes of some game I dont care about, how lame and redundant, whats the point

I don't have a minidisc player or anything so I can't make a proper rip. Something I need to do at some point. Seller included a CD-R copy, though, which is what I used to hear the content.
