The Playstation game is way different than the Sega CD original, but they're both good. Play both of them eventually. The other remakes aren't as good in my opinion. I haven't played Legend for GBA, but I didn't like the changes in Harmony for PSP that much.

Don't. They removed traversing the world map for some reason.

The remake is honestly the preferable version overall, as the audio is more stable and less bitty, and the tone of the game is a lot more evened out compared to the SCD original (for what it's worth with a Working Designs translation anywho). That doesn't devalue the Sega CD version at all however, which is still damn impressive for what it was, but the sequel ultimately works better with the PS1 version's story in mind.

Eternal Blue's remake is a different story, though, even if WD's retarded ass save requirements fucks it all up, and Lunar Legend is a messy novelty at best while Silver Star Harmony on the PSP is the ultimate slap in the face by making it so generic it's not even amusing.

Hard to say. The sega cd releases flow better. The extra content of the remakes slow the game down. The remakes feel a bit mellow too.

But the menu system of the sega cd silver star is primitive.

Sega lunar eb is harder and more rewarding imo. They nerfed any challenge in the remake. And again, the pacing is off.

I'd play the sega cd releases then play the remakes for extra story if you really like the characters

The remake is much harder than the Sega CD version which was of trivial difficulty. Lunar 2's combat difficulty was only difficult on Borgan and Zophar in the original and Borgan was only hard because of that bullshit staff attack.

Lunar Eternal Blue CD is one of the few rpgs out there that I think has perfectly balanced difficulty.

And yes, while the SS remake is decent, the EB one is far worse in a bunch of areas and feels both rushed and lazy. We'll probably never know but I've always wondered if something happened to Gamearts in that time. Maybe they blew a big wad remaking SS and then sales weren't anything like what they wanted, but I feel like the overall quality of everything they've made since has been worse and worse. Lunar Dragon Song is abominable.

Every single technique has a loading effect. It gets old fast. Yes, even enemy techniques.
Backgrounds are soulless. Most dungeons now are 2 or 3 screens long.
The fat kid finally has a unique battle sprite.
You move through the world map differently . PSP has a linear path, like in Final Fantasy X, instead of free roam (like in Chrono Trigger).

I think that's it.

>> No.6166582

>>6166573
You also have super attacks for each character, and the game is easier overall

>> No.6166583

By the way, there's a ton of differences between the original (Sega CD) and remakes. You can even say they're almost different games, given how much of the story they change. The biggest change in the main story itself is that Luna travels with you far longer in the remakes, while in the original she barely did.

Another important change is that the final form of the final boss was changed in the remakes. The original final boss (Sega CD) is an allusion to a character from Lunar 2. This creates a weird situation. The remake version of Lunar 2 will reference this event from the Sega CD version. If you've played the remake of the first game and then started the second remake, you'd be left asking who the hell was that character.

In this case, it's true. The PSX/Saturn versions are almost completely different from the Sega CD version. Not just the graphics, but the battle system, equipment system and even part of the story.

It's a remake, not a port.

>> No.6167805

For anyone wondering about the final boss thing, in the Sega CD version it's the Magic Emperor.. The remakes change it to Ghaleon. Even though they're the same character, the difference is that he shows the feral eyes in the Sega CD version. Thus, when he appears in Lunar 2, you'll know who he is just by looking. While if you played the remake of Lunar 1, you'll have no idea who the guy is.

You got 2 choices really.Tthe kinda clunky Sega CD version with a really poor use of color palate. With a pretty boring over world map. Nice but static cut scenes.

Or the PS version with a beautiful color palate, less over world wandering. Very nice anime cut scenes.

The wailing "soulless" tards, and the practical game nice looking game that is mostly the same. Just streamlined.

I beat the PS1 version of Lunar and the SCD version of Eternal Blue.

Emulate, the Soulless Grind of Lunar 2 on SegaCD adds 60+ hours to the game. I clocked in over 80 hours in Lunar 2 and 90% was the Grind. I turbo gound it, It was nice.

You're thinking of Dragon Song, which was a godawful game on the DS. You had to walk through everything, and if you ran it drained HP. Even in towns. Attacks and targets were automatic, taking all skill out of the combat system, and you had to choose between getting experience for levels, or getting random item drops. Not one iota of logical reasoning went into Dragon Song's design.

You might also be thinking of Eternal Blue's stupid ass design change by Working Designs in the west, where you had to spend your Magic Points that you normally use for leveling special attacks, to be able to fucking save.

Lunar 2 Sega CD never requires any grinding at all. If you simply explore each area fully looking for items by the time you reach the boss it will be a challenge but beatable. There isn't a single spot where you need to stop to grind for XP.

The remake is much easier though, so maybe you expected and wanted it to be a cake walk so you wasted time grinding until it was piss easy but all you dud was rob yourself of challenge and waste time.

Lunar was, in terms of gameplay and story, straight up a fairly standard pair of games in the 16-bit era. Eternal Blue was right up there with Breath of Fire 2 for pioneering 'corrupt church manipulated by an evil god' stuff in the mainstream. What really defined these games were the characters, which got a lot more effort put into them than the roster-filling names of most JRPGs of the time, the presentation basically putting an anime game onto your SCD or PS1 for its time, and the localization being relatively high-quality for what it was in the 90's despite their quirky bad jokes spicing things up. No one even had context for knowing Working Designs fucked up the balance in EB and so forth, so they were just hard games.

For someone not looking through a nostalgia filter, it's easy to see Lunar as pretty average since they served as a creative blueprint upon the genre for making the stories more character-focused than plot and battles.

>> No.6171161

>>6171024
Also at least in the North American release, Working Designs didn't re-record the audio even though the animation changed, so there are a number of scenes where it doesn't line up right anymore. SSSC isn't that bad but EBC is such a train wreck it's almost unbelievable.

The Saturn version has a better soundtrack, minus the flute. The soundtrack in the Saturn version has better mixing and feels like a unique game, whereas the Playstation version just sounds like a SNES game (and yes, I know about the SNES sound hardware thing with Sony). The only song where the flute in the Saturn version is abysmal is in Burg, which is unfortunate, but songs like Meribia have two different guitar types in the Saturn version that are just watered down to two acoustic guitar parts in the Playstation version.
