Weebshit aside, some game in the series are quite competent shooters, I don't know any other shmup that has something like grazing mechanic, normally in shmups you'd rather avoid enemy projectiles, here the game rewards you for doing the opposite.

The PC98 games require a lot more memorization than the later games. Bullets are faster, enemies burst in from wherever they feel like it, and there's no survival gimmicks like borders or releases (not even deathbombing).
