Thanks to CGR i'm interested in buying a sega saturn. what exclusives are worth buying?

Soukyugurentai

All the best ones are expensive. It's not uncommon to install a mod chip and play burned games.

This thread fucking disgusts me

If you have no interest on the game themselves then why are you buying the console? Your shitty e-celebrity isn't going to let you suck his cock if you do

Keep in mind that some of the Japanese games need/work better with the 4meg ram expansion cart.

To clarify, some need a 1MB or a 4MB cart. I know Samurai Shodown 3 and KOF 96 glitch if you use the 4MB cart, but it needs the 1MB.

Your best bet is to get the Action Replay 4-in-1 which has both built in.

Saturn missed out on having an actual Sonic game, although if you're interested enough, Sonic R is endearingly bad. Sonic 3D Blast is mostly the same as the Genesis version, but it has half pipe bonus stages similar to Sonic 2's, and a totally different soundtrack that's a bit unconventional for Sonic, but still pretty cool.

I say mod chip then play burned games, both US and Japan market (lot of awesome shit on the Japan market). Then once you know what games you really like, if you are a collector, go find real copies.

Alternately if you want to do it legit but want Japanese games too, get the Action Replay cart, it doubles as the 4M RAm expansion and lets you make backups of save data (have to copy it around though, games can only read what's in the stupidly tiny system memory). It does not allow burned copies to run though.

that's just a re-release collection, not a new game. go to Dreamcast for Sonic Adventure if you want a 3D era Sonic

i used to have sonic gems collection, it felt like it was meant to be an arcade game.

I'm sorry. I thought these were actual Sonic games on the Saturn, but apparently they are not actual Sonic games.

It's oddly similar to the Sonic arcade game.

To be fair, they're the best Sonic games available on the system.

Hey, I loved Sonic R. It was short and the characters were unbalanced but it was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the music.

>> No.615580

The Undub version of Magic Knight Rayearth is nice, but you need a mod chip or supple wrists to play it. Hell, anything done by Working Designs is a sure-fire pile of fun.

For less HIDEOUSLY EXPENSIVE games, Soviet Strike, Road Rash, Need for Speed, Sega Rally, Daytona, Virtua Racing, Virtual On, Fighters Megamix... Bleh, just try everything you can get.

I have that game. It's pretty shitty.
>>615552
I'm not the one who used the term "actual", but I simply meant they could just as easily be played on Genesis. The Saturn never got a true, new flagship Sonic title as part of the main series, which was probably a huge mistake considering the immense 2D power of the system which was miles ahead of the PS1 or N64.

Working Designs has screwed up some games, especially when it comes to Spaz shmups like Raystorm. You can't even get to the end of the game unless you play it on hard. They literally end the game after a few stages.

This wasn't present in the JP release.

OP, if you like puzzle games, you should look at the Puyo Puyo series:

The story behind this game always depresses me. Though after some time passes I'm not sure how good the actual game would have turned out based on youtube videos.

Not with japanese developers going "MUH NIGHTS ENGINE".

Seriously it seems Sega of Japan did everything they could to hinder that game's development.

Iron Storm is pretty good.
Also I hope you're decent at Japanese or you're going to miss out on some games.

I just have the PSX version. I don't like it well enough to try to finish it, and after years of fighting and being hit by cars, I can't focus well enough to play shooters anymore.
