Overclocking these games generally makes them harder. Run Star Fox overclocked and you'll have trouble responding to half the shit flying your way. Gradius III? You bet your ass you have less time to think with less slowdown.

Moving goalposts already? Just kidding.
I mean, this thread is for Contra III, so first, people who claim it's easy should post their own 1cc's of it before daring others to do it for Hard Corps.
Really though, Hard Corps becomes really easy once you know the game and it's not hard to beat it without losing a single life, Contra III is more punishing, even if you know the game.
HC gives the impression of being super hard initially due to the amount of boss fights that quickly make you lose on your first attempt playing the game, but it's not really a hard game, far from it.

I'd imagine that while Hard Corps has the invincible slide which the game was designed around, you also have more reserve weapons to fall back on when you die, and we all know certain characters are just better. Contra 3 only has two slots. There's also a bit more RNG in 3 if i'm remembering correctly, especially in those fucking top-down stages, so even memorization of the stages doesn't mean much if you can't improvise.

>> No.6152930

>>6152880
Not them, but Contra Hard Corps is so hard it's just for kids. Only they could possibly do it perfectly now because they have all the time. Had the game as a kid and after much dedication, I no death-ed it. Don't remember the exact ending, but I knew about the hidden endings and the shopping cart boss and the dinosaur;etc, but Jesus that game is hard. Correct advertising. It's the least user-friendly Contra.

No it's not, at least not if we're talking about a 1cc. The final boss of Rebirth alone is harder than anything in Hard Corps, some of his patterns are straight bullshit like the aimed stream of debris since it combines with his random movement. To top it off you've only got 2 lives for the whole game, no bombs and only 1 weapon reserve. Hard Corps, as someone has pointed out, appears very difficult because it's so memorization-based, but once you learn the patterns, pulling everything off isn't hard.

Like Rebirth, but Rebirth is easier. By far. You've just played Hard Corps to death; you're like the smug employee of a game store that swears that Ninja Gaiden is easy, like sooo sooo easy. Yes. After years of practice, whereas Rebirth took days.

>> No.6153463

>>6153449
>Do it again with this useless weapon for the true end" which is bullshit
You don't have to do the whole game with that weapon, anon. Yeah, you can use whatever any get the final weapon again any time you want.

>> No.6153468

>>6153459
Not even close, I played both in quick succession and found Hard Corps much easier because of the reasons I listed. Rebirth is just a faster, more punishing and more random game with trickier sections, the Llamas and final boss being good examples. And that's assuming you play as Ray like I did or Sheena, instead of cheesing it with Brownie or Fang's charged punch. Now if your goal is to just credit feed then maybe Rebirth is easier but I never bothered.

>> No.6153491

>>6153479
I already got gud and 1cc'd both, that's why I can say for sure that Rebirth is harder. And no, none of that applies to Hard Corps. The game has very little randomness, and what little there is can be bypassed with keeping up good damage or bombs. You have no choice but to deal with Rebirth's randomness, there's no way around it. And again, dying in Hard Corps means you'll lose one of the 6 or even 7 lives you get over the course of the game and one single weapon out of your huge arsenal, dying in Rebirth means you'll lose one of your 2 lives, and one of your 2 weapons which will most likely make the next section much harder. You say you "beat it" but what's that mean? Did you 1cc it, or did you use continues? Hard Corps will probably be harder if you continue like a motherfucker.

>> No.6153495

>>6153481
It's harder than literally anything in Hard Corps because you have to switch between keeping up with the random Llama movement and enemies that spawn in from behind, and there's so much shit going on their shots can blend in with the explosions. Hard Corps never requires this kind of multi-tasking, nor does it have this kind of randomness unless you fail to quickly finish a boss phase.

I didn't struggle with HC very much, it felt pretty smooth actually. Each time I did a run I got further than the last time and always learned something new. Hard Corps is more like a puzzle game, the important part is knowing where to stand during different boss phases and which weapons to use, and where to use your bombs (most likely gonna be the VR boss). A lot of the attacks will kill you the first time you encounter them but once you know they're there dodging them shouldn't be much of a problem. Hell, some bosses or game segments don't even require any dodging at all. Rebirth doesn't have as much of this memorization element but it has a lot of small subtle things that are likely to kill you off, like the random Llama movement can throw off your dodging/shooting, or the final stampede with the irregular jumping aliens, or the entirety of the final boss which has a lot of random patterns it can throw at you some requiring really tight dodging while you're upside-down.
