Ok so I got Xash 3D's latest known build, and used 7Zip to extract both the folder that contains build 4344 along with the extras from the zipped file into into folders of their own. Honestly the best way to start modding is just fucking around in Doom builder for a while, get to the know the quirks of the mapping tools. Yeah. The only time I'd agree with death as punishment for failing platforming sections, is if the game was specifically designed to be a platformer first and foremost. But its clear that platforming isn't the primary focus in Doom Eternal. And I'd imagine most of the tougher platforming sections will be for optional secrets, and not the main progression.

Doable in a lot of games which let you crouch. Probably most of them in fact. I use it in Half-Life, Duke Nukem 3D, etc. The premier example would be Blood, where it's actually a very vital tactic to not be riddled with .45 caliber FMJ or buckshot at every other turn.

I use it a lot when I play Doom with mods, either to squeeze down behind something to take cover for a brief moment, and once or twice to duck down to have a Cyberdemon's rocket sail over my head, into a Pinkie's mouth.

I'm actually ok with this development, the chainsaw were the most satisfying glorykills, and in Doom 3 the chainsaw was the most fun weapon by far, you could use it to fight almost all of the monsters. This feels like a good halfway between those two. Also of course the infinite ammo pistol was about as useful as the original pistol, ergo only barely.

Can you still use larger amounts of fuel to take down bigger guys?

Yeah, from what I've seen, the chainsaw has 3 fuel pips, it regenerates up to level 1 to kill mooks for ammo, but you'll need higher tiers of charge to chainsaw the big lads.
I'm really happy with this development, the pistol sucked.
Plus I've seen the light on how infinite ammo pistols are harmful for most games, especially within doom mods.

Well if you have an infinite use projectile weapon that doesn't require any risk to keep using, it encourages bad behaviors with shitty overly safe plays by hanging back and plink-plink-plinking the monsters til they die of annoyance.

I just played through KDITD with Brutal Doom, and I have some thoughts: whatever criticisms you may have about the author and the actual implementation, a lot of the ideas in BD seem like much better evolutions of the first two games than 3, d44m, and probably eternal.
-enemies move and melee much faster (but don't jump all over the place nor bite your ankles)
-explosion radii are greatly increased
-weapon damage is no longer random but will vary depending on hit location
-different death animations depending on where the enemy was hit
-enemies sometimes do last stand attacks if you don't utterly destroy their bodies
-explosive barrels can be pushed about for tactical detonation
-ordinance can penetrate enemies, allowing you to hit enemies or explosive barrels behind them
-weapons have to be reloaded, encouraging you to find cover or switch weapons during engagements
-more weapons including better long range options than tediously tapping fire with the chain gun
-aiming down sights reduces spread compared to hip firing
-limited but occasionally useful ways of killing enemies silently

Doom I/II style maps, encounters, and SLIGHTLY modified enemies
Turok 2 style gore
More modern fps mechanics
= perfection.

The mod itself is buggy and the author is apparently a huge chode, but I like his ideas much more than the scripted jump scares of 3 or the merry-go-round glory kills of d44m.

I've been playing through Shadow Warrior with VoidSW and aside from some pretty obvious graphical issues (textures occasionally bugging out, mirrors connect to the shadow realm, screen tearing during large explosions) it's perfectly playable and feels way smoother than any previous port.

They nailed over-the-top voilence and fun fast-paced gameplay in the nu-Dooms. And although the creepy atmosphere is mostly gone, the gory hellish visuals are still there. It's definitely different in some ways, but it's also pretty much the best way they could reimagine DOOM while still appealing to modern gamers. I appreciate the directiom DOOM '16 went in much more than what DOOM 3 tried to do. Although that's not that high of a bar since DOOM 3 completely failed at what it tried to do. I played the originals without shit like Brutal Doom multiple times by the way. Brutal Doom is a fun little addon but it's not a "better" version of DOOM, just a more modern and gory version.

Get Universal Gibs. Enemies gibbed by that can't get resurrected by any means, ever. If you don't want any of the flying bits, set gibbing to "Blood Only". That's the most performance-friendly setting as it leaves no trace. Will only spawn blood trails and nothing more. Not sure if Nashgore or Bolognese have the same effect on gibbed monsters.

Dead bodies in HD keep track of damage done to them, both overkill damage and any abuse they take it post-mortem.
One frag shard removes about 600 points of damage to the body, if it's still too damaged the resurrection fails. Some monsters still get back up but collapse again after a short moment, barons might still get an attack through in this state.

That's understandable. REALM isn't for everyone, but Krinkels has an indirect hand (kelzad has confirmed this) and REALM is also kind of a testing bed for things in Krinkel's animations, plus it's a more 'worldbuilding' sort of thing whereas MC is/was just 'i'm making this up as i go'

There's a lot of different variants of MAG agents so that could be fun.
Auditor is one of several "Employers" so you could probably pull a quick swirl of an eye out of your ass for a fresh one and it would work fine.
Chaingunner is a better statistical/function choice for auditor though. Fucker sniping you across the map with a minigun...

Interestingly; the idea of parts of "bone" materializing through the black flame akin to muscle movements/facial flexes when in active use is a pretty interesting way of showing "Yeah there's a bit more to 'em than flamey dude", probably why this concept works nicely for translating to doom sprites even if it is suspiciously like that one other fucker.

The blue helmet came from a design Sgt Shivers proposed a long time ago, and the eyes originally came from this sketch by HyperUltra64, I just ran with it and made him slightly cock-eyed because it's funny.
