Between the Genesis and Sega CD, there's enough to keep me interested indefinitely. Lots of endlessly playable strategy games and shmups. Some of the Sega CD games in particular, at least for me, represent the height of gaming. It's the 4th gen at its best, the talent was there, the hardware limitations still ensured a certain amount of necessary creativity, but devs basically had unlimited storage space. And it's just beautiful.

I don't remember exactly in which year the Dreamcast became accepted, but the console itself came out in 1998, so the logical thing to do would be allow the rest of the consoles 1-3 years later. They should all be retro by now, but I guess years go by slower for mods.

Sega Genesis with all of its addons
It's true that I'd miss out on 3d games but at least the library is much bigger since you get all of the Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and Sega 32x games to play with it.
Not only that but it's great for listening to music with, running homebrew titles, and potentially trying to run something like collapseOS for tinkering or whatever.
