Did anyone here like the original final fantasy? I think it's the best rpg on the system

DUAL ORB 2 is a much better game on a much better system.

I have a legit question...

What bugfixes should I apply to the nes version?

I'd like a bunch of bugfixes to all the flaws the game had but enjoy it as originally as possible.

Then you don't want the bugfixes, mate. The bugs are a significant part of the game, like it or not. Besides, good luck finding a patch that fixes only actual bugs and doesn't include 'fixes' that some wanker thought the game needed 30 years later. They're all like that.

You could go for that one translation patch that leaves the bugs intact, to get closer to the Japanese 1987 experience than the official 1990 release.

You don't actually need bugfixes. People played it back then, how do you think they handled the bugs with no patching mechanisms available? Answer: They didn't even know about the bugs, not before they played and not afterward either. Be like those people.

Willow's okay but come on if you're bringing in that type of game then you have to allow Crystalis, which blows away most other NES games of any genre.

I like it. But surely one of the Dragon Warriors surpasses it?

Yeah, I liked it. It's the one game in the series I replay every couple years.

i like the ambition of FFII somewhat more but FFI is a better game to play through. also pretty easy to replay

nope

Right, all of the DQ/DW games surpass it.

maybe you could stretch the argument to DQIII and even then FFI is more simple yet more fun. both DQI and DQII pale in comparison specially DQII which i would go as far as to call the only bad classic nes RPG (even worse than FFII which is just broken)

I've played through the NES version a few times, yeah. It's definitely an acquired taste though, and I'd highly recommend playing on an emulator to make level grinding go by faster. I played it on original hardware and honestly just spent most of my time holding down the A button to set all my party members to attack, then doing something else on my computer while I wait for the turn to go by.

The PS1 remake is pretty good too; as far as I can tell it uses pretty much the exact same numbers/game balance as the NES version, but it has the better graphics/music and all of the bugs are fixed.

"best RPG on the system", lol no. FF3 is way better in almost every way.
