I keep trying to get people into it since high school. That was 14 years ago. I managed to get people into HoMM, I managed to get people into EU and HoI, I even convinced some into AoW and Original War... but no matter what, I had zero luck trying to get anyone into SMAC.
The best part is that I'm no pro in it anyway, so I assume if I would pick a net invitation with random person still interested in playing the game in 2020, I would be utterly crushed within first 100 turns.

When I was a teen, friend of mine always asked his mother to be the 3rd or even 4th human player in our HoMM3 matches.
She was really fucking good with Rampart and Fortress

I watched my dad play it a lot and got into it after seeing him beat the whole campaign.

I was too young to git gud for real, but I fondly remember doing bombing runs in that big ass flier and playing all these crazy mods that had new weapons made entirely of the base weapon models arranged together to form new shit.

My problem was that I had dial up until I was old enough to have my first job to pay for high speed internet while my friends all had DSL and cable. The lag compensation would differ from game to game, some being bearable (as fine as 200 ping vs 50 ping can be) like Starcraft, while some were pretty much I'm fucked and at a disadvantage like Counter Strike.

I heard the OG Civlizations: Call to Power had an email type network capability. Game was great (esp. the ending imo) given all it's flaws. Would have loved to play this with my dad in the 90s

M.U.L.E.

It's nearly a board game already, so it would be fun to play with 3 other people.

you'll still need to hook up 4 controllers because of auctions

besides that yeah, I can imagine being amazing in multiplayer since it's Monopoly but better

now that I think about it more the MULE multiplayer would be a tad problematic since some dickhead would surely ruin the fuck out of colony's economy and claim "victory" because he was first

so yeah it's basically Monopoly

People still play online, look up OpenRA. You can probably find at least 1 other player.

It would be hard to find anyone willing to play a game that would require the both of you to play for hours and hours and hours on end until you finally reach endgame. You would need to find someone who is a NEET or is willing to play the same game for weeks on end during all their spare time. That's a hard sell.

>>6138693
Seconded.

Would have been nice to play Duke Nukem 3D multiplayer back when it was big. I didn't have internet then, so I just played the hell out of the three campaigns.

Doom and Quake LAN parties must have been a blast back in the mid-to-late 90's.

I like my games to reach 200-250 turn. Is that really so much to ask? I'm not expecting to hit final turn mark, that would be just retarded, since the game doesn't have enough stuff to last more than 300 turns anyway.
But seeing 200 would be nice. All the late mid-game stuff going, rather than just impact rover rush.

It would be neat to set up a weekly psuedo lan party where you play a new multiplayer game every week via netplay and stuff.
