So what if he does? There are 2 options:

1. He speeds up his work on translating the game and there are two competing translations.
2. He quits translating the game and nothing is lost because you just released a translation.

In either scenario at least one complete translation is available and in the first scenario it incentivizes him to speed up working on translations. Either he becomes more productive or he fucks off from the scene. Either way, nothing is lost.

Double-translations are more common in anime than games; from my experience they're generally not as good as direct translations due to the extra degree of separation (things will be less accurate because the first translation necessarily changes things due to differences between languages), but it's still "good enough" in the sense that you can play the game and understand what's going on compared to playing it in raw Japanese when you don't speak a lick of it.
