Aside from the interesting OST and spritework, this game is a programming mess. Why do I keep seeing it recommended here?

Yup this. I was a little guy and had my next door older neighbor kid had this, and a waterbed and was the only one I knew with a Sega. He also had Dune 2 and he was a badass. He let me watch Beavis and Butthead and introduced me to RHCP and House of Pain, and had a full size Predator cardboard standup, a death of superman poster a waterbed and a can of Billy Beer in his room. Everything about Chakan that is cool is because that kid was so cool.

Electronic Arts had such great games, shame they aren't a thing anymore.

It has collision detection that is literally tutorial-tier. When I made my first game it had the same sliding box kind of crap that you get taught before being told it doesn't work as a long term solution.

Its crazy to think at one time someone used to see "Electronic Arts" and think the game was bound to be good or at least interesting. Now its all poopy

the british retro sphere is filled with garbage tier games as a keystone of their culture. just look at their atrocious release schedule during those years to see why.

This. The game isn't good but the concept and presentation are really top notch.

I've read this one. Dunno if there's more:

It's nothing special, but is an ok read if you are nostalgic for that 90's edge like me.

And to think 3do didn't have any of those great IPs. 3do today could have been a contender just with madden/fifa exclusivity alone

I'm not so sure, but if EA shat out another Strike game I would at least pirate it.

The excessive nostalgia for all things Nintendo makes any Genesis exclusive games seem like a cool piece of lost gaming history. You'd think Sega had thoroughly lost the 16-bit wars with how ignored most Genesis exclusive games are from a modern viewpoint. At least Nintendo was always big in the US. Must suck to be European and see old school Nintendo shit no one played slowly take over as the quintessential retro gaming platform when it barely existed for you back then.

>>6136004

It doesn't matter though, because most retro enthusiasts weren't old enough to remember at the actual time. Tons of people still have MegaaDrives sat around in their parents attic though.

My first console was a PS1 (only ever played played DOS games til then), but I remember my friend as a kid having a SNES. So it's not like Nintenders were non-existent in Europe.

Yeah, sorry, but I had both SNES and Genesis. Also had a N64 and a PSX. I didn't have a Saturn, though, which kinda bums me out. Of all the "retro" shit, the Saturn interests me the most.

Walk towards a ledge in the game, and you'll find yourself "snapping" off the edge of it and falling. This is because it's a diagonal collision that isn't checked properly. Code-wise, gravity pushes your character down into the ground, but instead of the ground pushing you back up, it reads it as if it were a horizontal wall and pushes you out to the side until there's no more wall for it to collide with. This all happens mid-frame, so when the screen updates, you're already falling.
