To top it off there's a lot of rng in bullet hell patterns, which you're complaining about. But lastly what's this about "natural skill"? You don't need talent to get to a good level in shmups (though the absolute highest levels may require it), most players promote commitment and smart play, not just being talented.

And a lot of pursuits even creative ones are quite ridiculous, there are so many hopeless musicians and artists that nonetheless work hard on their craft and even make good music/art but won't get much out of it ultimately. Passion towards hobbies is often a bit absurd, and even insane.

Touhou is objectively the pinnacle of SHMUP because that's anyone into shmups can aspire to, infinitely practiced repetition that becomes second nature. Dadshit players will at least quit while they're ahead, stop playing after experiencing the most popular shmups. But what remains are the nihilistic monsters of the genre who will incessantly propagate their pride to continue the process of wasting away. It's the same thing as mastering a Rubik's cube, there's no practicality to it, but they will continue do it, they will continue to degenerate.

Polarity give the player a choice in what can hit them. Do you attack with opposite polarity and risk taking a harder to avoid attack? Do you stay safe with the same polarity while avoiding other, less dangerous attacks? What about the cloud of suicide bullets that's coming at you?

plus, the level design is based around it
beams of polarity that nudge you around, walls that need to be shot out of your way (and spray a cloud of bullets when done), etc

Sounds just like any other depressed person with no future. He also seems very aware of his shitty situation. Seems similar to my life, minus the touhou shit games.

Bleh, Raiden II,DX and Raiden IV are great though I also like to pretend Raiden V doesn't exist.

There is no reason not to emulate the original games. Well, unless you're using an ancient version of MAME, since Raiden 2 was emulated properly not all that long ago.

If you want to play them on hardware, the Playstation port of 1 and 2 is excellent.

Raiden 2 doesn't work on shmupmame, have to get the normal version of MAME for it

You're telling me you could watch a run on youtube a few times to memorize the stages then boot it up and 1cc it first try?

it would take more than a few times, it's a long game but...that's the jist of it.
not really hard if you think about it

It's not that long, a bit over 30 minutes so you could do it in a couple of hours easy no? Go for it, champ.

each stage has a lot of simple stuff to memorize, it would be extremely tedious

Not really, you could memorize the enemy spawns pretty easy, figuring out where you need to be, what you need to do and when then learning all that timing and practicing until you're mechanically skilled enough at it to pull it all off without dying is the hard part.

There's no such thing as being good at these or any games first try, you can only be slightly less trash than others who blind flailed through them. Being innately good at something isn't a skill by definition, also.

The only part that's significantly more difficult on loop 2 is the bridge level, the rest is mostly just a slight increase in speed, and slightly smarter Red Arremers.
>>6140918
That version might be more difficult but only because of Satans, the fights just boil down to luck. The rest isn't that bad.
