Really dig TNT. Most of it anyway. Personally, I prefer it too Plutonia, but I know most would disagree on me there. It has a few really classic levels. MAP15 Dead Zone being a personal favorite.

The secret level, like 31 PHARAO is pretty good too. I like many of the hell episodes.

I also like MAP16 Deepest Reaches and MAP18 Mill.

However, there are a couple of really shitty ones. Unfortuneately, most of them appear late in the game. MAP25 Barons Den, MAP26 Ballistyx and MAP28 Heck are all shit.

I'd say pretty much all maps from MAP01-MAP21 are great. After that, every other map is just crap.

Also, I may end up making a SUPER TORRENT of these. Keep in mind, they may not all contain music, because some people apparently do not think its necessary to pack it into the download with the game, or don't like how much extra space the music requires.

I may have been unclear with the pluses. The pluses indicate sequels of the game within the same era, or at least a presented era on the list.

I recommend posting titles of games before the torrent is created.

When/if I make the super torrent, would you all rather see DOS executables, or as many source ports as I can muster?
or both

Man, looking at that list really shows me how the genre progressively grew, and really made me realize that all of those games probably won't even amount to 1 gigabyte without mods, which I decided against adding in this torrent. I may make a separate one for those.

Also, I haven't tried it yet, but apparently some Duke Nukem Forever mod for Duke3D came out a few days ago. There was a shitload of hype for its release, might be good.

I think this thread is nice, though, becasuse unlike /vg/, it isn't very insular.

We've had tons of Doombros come in here that haven't played the game in ages, or some folks that have never played at all and are interested. Ten minutes later they're on Zandro with us shooting shit up.

We try to help everyone out, and besides some of the mapbros and maybe a few others, barely anybody trips or even namefags (and if so, only when its warranted, such as talking about a match that recently happened).

While Doom is usually the main topic of discussion, we've gone over a huge number of the older FPS Doom-like games. Also, we talk about modding, making maps, the community, etc. Its a lot more than just Doom, and like I said, we try to help everyone out.

Only if there are no source ports available, and its only DOS.

Also, if multiple games run on one engine, just write the engines name as the main folder where normally a games name would be, and include all of the files needed to run the game. Honestly?

Like some mix between regular doom, hideous destructor, and ProjectILE. That is, the game has a slower aspect to it, with cool weapon variety, a lot more item management than Doom 3 had (need to be careful with ammo, perhaps have item upgrades you can find?), but also give the monsters more variety through abilities. The worst part about the monsters in Doom 3 is how little they tend to do.

Throw in some Resurection of Evil-type rip and tear moments and that'll be a good package.

However, the map design is probably the most important thing to get right. Doom 3 had a few neat nooks and crannies, but it wasn't enough. None of those things I mentioned above will be worth a shit without good maps.

Doom was pretty cool, and Quake 4(same engine, hence my mentioning it) had a few good moments, especially towards the end (The cave fight scenes were some of the better ones in Doom 3). Doom 3's interpretation of Hell was also pretty sweet, and the tank- and mech- controlling parts of Quake 4 were awesome. The attempts at 'horror' weren't that good, though. (When every monster is trying to come out of one closet or another, a certain insult is far too amusing to ignore.) In short, it needs to be focused on the player-controlled bits of action. Doom has always been associated with arsekickery for me, not horror.

Also, I'm tempted to give spectres the same charge ability as demons- just to make them more terrifying. Maybe they'll charge like three times after coming back into phase?

Regardless, Projectile is first and foremost a mod that turns hitscan enemies into (fast, admittedly) projectile enemies. Which is why there's an entire seperate .pk3 in the zip that keeps only the projectile foes/weapons. Then the rest is just me fucking around for fun.

New concepts;
Spider Mastermind throws around teleport beacons, and teleports to them whenever he gets pained. Not sure I can pull this off, though.

Cyberdemon has homing missiles, and when he dies, he fires off explosions all directions, doing massive damage in his area. Also, twice as much health (but takes twice and half again as much damage from explosions and piercing attacks)

Dead players in multiplayer can be revived by archviles and vilesparks to become enemies. (If I can pull it off, using whatever weapon the player is holding at the time they died.)

So far, these are the completed.

Blood
Duke Nukem 3D
Rise Of The Triad
Elder Scrolls I - Arena (I have them all, should I add Daggerfall?)
The Marathon Trilogy
All 9 IWADS included in the Doom Megapack (this fulfills 5 on the list, because Doom + = 4 of those wads, Hexen + has 2 wads)

I will begin working on these later tomorrow
Star Wars: Dark Forces (found a source port :)
System Shock
Cyber Mage

>>615514
I understand having a full collection, but you don't want to overload the torrent with files people may never use! A good goal is to make the torrent as low of impact as possible, so more people will seed, and less bandwidth is wasted.

Good point, it also doesn't seem to start because it requires a .dll to run, which isn't available with the program, and isn't available on the CD.

I will have to determine if the CD works tomorrow.

Not for nothing, but why is this not the first thing pointed to in the FAQ on why the Doom threads are on /vr/? As it is, it sounds like a user's weak justification for bending rules to his tastes more than an actual reason. The FAQ statement should open up with, "Moot has already stated that Doom threads, general or otherwise, are allowed on /vr/ by virtue of being classified as retro. See this image: [link]." This way, there's no questioning, no rationalizing, it goes straight to a refutation of the claim that Doom threads don't belong here, no questions. You can add the justification fluff after that if you must have it in there.

http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=33143&sid=6123f7d947d9b801695ab1bd4a2d2a5b

and heavily modified it to be my personal weapon selection compatible with Brutal Doom and fit for crazy difficult mods (going for a total carnage)

weapons are:
Slot 1:
-Punches

-Sword. Silent weapon. Alt attack cloaks you, attacking makes you decloak. Has life drain. Hits 3 times. Going ninja for a bit, or fighting Brutal Barons of Hell with a sword is fun

Slot 2:
-Revolver. I changed some sprites from the mod. It's basically 6-shot doom pistol on steroids. Gonna blow some heads up

-Crossbow. You start with this one too. 25 bolts. bolts can be recovered from the walls. Backpacks replenish your bolts, otherwise no ammo pickups. Silent weapon. Pierces. Has Zoom.

Slot 3:
-Semi-auto shotgun. See Killing Floor's Combat Shotgun? Basically that. 8 shots, one of the most satisfying weapon to use with BD blood and gib system, it makes minced meat of anything.

-Quad Shotgun: Nuff said. alt attack fires 2 shells at once. Normal attack fires all 4.

Slot 4:
-Freezing SMG
A 4 bullet burst machinegun, with a secondary freezethrower. Freeze ammo replenishes over time, up to 25. A burst of chilled air consumed 5 ammo. Basic usage weapon along with the combat shotty, the freezer is nice against surprise pinkies or sudden monster closets.

-Dual Chainguns: This thing eats ammo and destroys anything in front of it equally. Almost superweapon tier, choice for Serious Sam esque massive fights.

Slot 5:
-6 slot rocket launcher, alt fire for grenades.

-Sticky launcher. TF2 weapon. Lay traps, blow up shit, stickyjump around like a madman

Slot 6:
-BD Plasma rifle, alt attack is auto.
-Laser gun: Instant shot. pierces, burns, has a zoom. Can overcharge.

Slot 7:
Modified BFG of that mod

Most weapon sprites are taken either from this mod I linked or from Russian Overkill, so I don't have any permission of any kind, and considering how "sensible" people in the doom mod scene are I'm not sure about uploading it.

I think I'll polish some things (code from that mod was HORRIBLE, I had to rewrite a lot of it), upload a video, and upload the mod anonymously in some of these Doom generals.

Well, scratch that tweak, then. I do recall a Doom 2 map that hid the blue key behind a hidden wall beside the yellow, visible one. This blue key could easily be missed in a level with a shitload of easy secrets to find and also had a Cyberdemon at the end.

Maybe relocate the key or something, though now that I know it's there, I suppose it won't bother me as much. Still, I spent fucking 30 minutes in that level looking for it.

Depends on what you're trying to do with ACS. If you're just trying to do simple level interaction type of stuff (Spawn X monsters and close Y doors when player crosses Z line), then it's easy enough to implement, and the difficulty simply becomes learning the structure of ACS. (Apparently it's kinda like some C language, though I honestly have no idea on that) More intricate stuff probably requires actual programming knowledge, but by then you're probably delving into that territory were folks accuse your level of "not feeling Doom enough" or whatever.

Might throw together some sort guides to some basic shit at some point to help folks along.

May I request, that the fair Anon dealing with Wave One + Wave Two of shooters, add a text file with instructions on how to install the game/how to run it, if it has a confusing/'original' method of use? I am uploading this to thepiratebay, so more than just 4channers are going to snag this!

Also, would this be a good Read Me.txt file?

"For help, look for /vr/'s Doom General on 4chan.org and post your question.

Some games (games that have error messages/force close/don't start) require a DOS computer/console-dos emulation. Required programs will be in the Extra Programs folder, along with instructions/list of which games need to be emulated on which program.
Some games included in the torrent run on a sourceport, so no need for clunky installs, or DOSBox.

Torrent includes:
:INSERT LIST HERE:"

Or, would you prefer there not be a mention to 4chan?

The readme file is always up for update, before release, if there is anything you would wish to add.

Don't worry, I will compile the programs necessary to play the games, plus the list of what games required what program, but I may need instructions myself as a resource!

Alright... Converted. And everything is working fine, except that when I look at a linedef in doombuilder it changes its function to whatever UDMF's function for that numbered action is. Works fine up until I check it though. Any way to solve this other than just not editing my maps?

>> No.620194

>>620107
Yes, but you get no notification if people post on your torrent, and it would take a whole lot of posts to explain how to start up 50+ games. We would probably have to write it anyways, and I certainly do not wish to fill my entire description of the torrent with installation instructions. It could be overwhelming! Call it perfectionism, but if I am making a torrent with a good number of games in it, I want it to be foolproof, and as easy as possible for the player. I feel like it would be easier to fix the problem, before it becomes one.

If he doesn't feel like writing the instructions, its fine, I can do them as well.

When loading a map in DB2, you should have a screen that allows you to load additional resources alongside a map file & IWAD. Add the Brutal Doom files in that screen, and you'll be able to use resources from it while mapping & have the additional files load when you run tests. I'm pretty sure you can also add resources after you've loaded a map in DB2, though I don't recall off-hand how to do it; should be in one of the menus somewhere.

Making a skins folder in your zdoom directory allows you to put wads in that autoload. Like a blood color fix.

Are you also loading AEODdat with the main AEOD file?
