Finished Alien Soldier:
http://shmuplations.com/aliensoldier/

>Alien Soldier is like my baby… no, strike that, it is my baby. And she’s very cute. It was a difficult birth. In the end we had to perform a dangerous C-section on the mother. So she’s a premature birth…

>If only I had spent more time on the programming, I could have made the attack animations and the multi-sprite boss movement more realistic.

>NAMI had prepared a huge backstory and world for Alien Soldier, too, but we ran out of time and the majority of it had to be cut from the game. The market for the Megadrive was quickly collapsing, and we had no choice but to release Alien Soldier in that half-finished state. The opening intro/demo had to be pared way down too…

>The thing that really makes me cringe when I hear praise like that for Alien Soldier, is that there were so many things we were unable to finish, but we still had to release it. The Megadrive market was vanishing, so we had to put it out, but only about 50% of our ideas got included. Even the boss Seven Force Kaede only has five transformations.

According to some rumors, Rare changed Twelve Tales because critics weren't impressed with what they saw. They said that the game was just another cute 3D platformer like many others made at that time.

I've read that the problem was actually with Osamu Tezuka's son, who was hard to work with regarding licenses of his father. Probably the Disney incident has to do with him becoming very protective about the IP, though.

Does anyone remember a game that probably never came out, about Easter Island or something? I remember seeing screenshots for it many years ago in a magazine. I think it was supposed to be an upcoming Saturn game. I'm also pretty sure it looked like mist or something...

Y'know, looking at the screenshots I'm guessing this probably is it. Maybe there was talk or plans for a Saturn version that never happened? I'm gonna have to look into this game more, but, definitely, thank you for your help though. The game really intrigued me as a kid and it's always bugged me that I could never figure out what it was.

I think they have the N64 game available to play at Brownie Brown's studio, so if you're ever near them in Japan you can probably visit and ask to try it if you suck up nicely. There's been people who have played it and have been interviewed about it, the main idea of the interview was "very broken, clearly unfinished."
