You mean getting to a point when you can 1cc a game comfortably? That's dozens of hours of playing, pretty good considering cucksole games cost more than that and you could 1cc most in a few hours.

Get good enough to single credit clear and you don't gotta pay shit.

$20-30 to beat it once doesn't seem like a very good deal unless the game is terrible and not worth replaying.

How much did you spend to get enough practice for a 1cc, though? Be honest.

I think the experience is transitive. There are a lot of games of that type that I could play through other means with infinite attempts at no recurring cost. We had a multi-arcade cabinet at my job (an after school program). I got paid to beat kids at video games.

Not him, I kept track when playing Cadillacs & Dinosaurs and it was like 18 bucks for my first 1cc using Mess. Each game is vastly different though, you can 1cc some like Batsugun Special on a single quarter. Metal Slug 1 would probably be like a couple or a few bucks. But once you get to harder stuff like Final Fight, Metal Slug 3, Battle Garegga and others it can cost you a lot especially if you don't have a lot of fundamental skill built up from playing other games in the genre. Not even talking about things like Cave 2-ALL's.

I can understand that, I've always been good at FPS, and even in wildly differing games, much of that skill always transfers over.

Platformers have never been my jam, I just don't have that skill-set ingrained in me.

$50?

Yeah only is you suck maybe. Most of the arcade games I beat I did with around $10 to $18 and I am not even good at games I’m just average. The only way an arcade game is gonna zap $50 out of you is if it’s a really hard shoot em up.

The thing to look out for with arcade games is the 3rd level. Level 3 are always the token takers.

Yeah. People often say that all shmups, fighting games, beat em ups etc. are "all the same" as a criticism but it works well in practice since that shared base means there's a lot of transferable skills involved. There's a real and very satisfying sense of improvement, especially in the beginning before the diminishing returns start kicking in.

Not op but me and my brother actually beat jurrassic park 3 each on our first credit first time playing. Our shooting was on point we were both using ultra instincts he would nail the shit out of the boss while I took out compys and shit like that. It was actually pretty crazy too bad nobody was around to watch us put on that absolute clinic.

I remember watching a dude play SW Trilogy Arcade and he made it to the end, he was in the Death Star II's core. Right during the final area he got a continue, and he put his quarters into the machine to finish. However the game immediately ended, because in moving down to put the quarters in, he accidentally nudged the control stick from "Continue? Yes" to "No". He wasn't even mad, just dumbfounded that it happened. Anyway he walked away and let me play his credit :)

>>6111056
Yes, of course. Usually years after I originally read them though because you need a change in perspective to get extra depth out of a story, which happens as you get older. With games the depth comes from you getting more skilled and experienced as a player, it's almost immediate and very rewarding because good games are based around mechanics and skill.

1ccs as an entry point into arcade gaming is even more important on emulators because emulators have no natural incentive to improve since there is no money on the line. It helps the feeble console brain comprehend the fun of arcade games.
