You could get the gist of Bonk or Commander Keen the quickest and decide if you want to complete these games or not.

If you intend to complete all the games here - The Secret of Monkey Island first.

BTW, the best game on that list is Deus Ex.

Jap release was in 1988, same year Zelda 2 and Mario 2 were released on the NES if I remember correctly. SMB3 was a bigger success in the USA and in Europe though so most people will think of 1990. That and it was the last big year for the NES and around the time the Gameboy started to pick up in popularity and newer Nintendo generations came about.

1990 was also the jap release year for F-Zero and Super Mario World so I'm not sure what OP is trying to say here. Minor mistake I guess.

I mowed lawns for an entire summer to afford my PS2. It was definitely the system that cemented my identity as a gamer.

I haven't hung around /vr/ long, but there seems to be a recurring Diablo 2 thread on here with a lot of knowledge of the game. Anons are super helpful to new players. The latest thread just expired with 385 replies in two weeks.

Diablo 2 is great in a "minute to learn, lifetime to master" way. It's got the typical Blizzard game difficulty curve, where it starts off easy to build your confidence and then inconspicuously ramps up until you're struggling to move forward. If you like a game to have really solid mechanics you can dive into and explore, it's your kind of game. Pretty cool story and lore, too. You'll appreciate that aspect more if you played Diablo 1 first, but it's hardly essential.

Deus Ex is also a masterpiece. I'm not sure I could say anything about it that hasn't already been repeated to death, but it's in my top 5 GoAT list for sure.

Amazing how the Japanese games on there are better and more creative than the western ones (besides of Monkey Island, which is the best of them all and should be played first)
