I wish Puzzle Fighter had more unique blocks. Like maybe use the symbols from the Street Fighter Alpha games (like each character has a unique symbol if you perform an custom combo finisher), or something else that gives it a more distinct look.
Just using generic gems feels a bit cheap, and sadly it makes me think of non-retro shit like bejeweled.

Still very good at tetris attack
But shit like puyo puyo, kirby's avalanche, and mean bean machine I have become such shit at since I haven't played in close to 10-15 years. Makes me sad how I can become garbage in one puzzle-like game but still be great at another.

Puyo Puyo Champions and Puyo Puyo vs. Tetris have alternate looking pieces to choose from, including some that would make things easier on you. Not just different colors, but different shapes too.

PdP/TA would be more fun if there were a sudden death mechanic so a round wouldn't drag on for potentially 20+ minutes.
I also don't like how long it takes for thwomps to transform into normal panels.
Plus there's a lot of RNG in both the garbage and the normal panels each player receives.
Overall, one of the weaker vs. puzzle games I've played. No idea why it has such a big competitive scene than because muh nintendo.
