How do you rate this game compared to the other RPGs on the SNES like Chrono Trigger, A Link To The Past, FF6, Earthbound, etc.?

>> No.6101393

Like a 6. It's pretty good but I haven't felt the need to replay it since my one playthrough.

>> No.6101395

The story is really good, but the battle system can be rather obtuse, and there are a few portions where you're looking for what to do instead of actually progressing the story.

Also difficulty curveballs.

>> No.6101412

Still on my to do list... Something puts me off about this game but can't really tell you what. I played till the part with the bird/animal wedding something?

>> No.6101413

It's decent. Like a 6, maybe 7. Combat is pretty good, but you have everything at the get go. Story is really nice, but at times the game gives you zero clues as what to do to progress the story. Euros tend to overhype it because of sour grapes over other SNES jarpigs.

Did anyone else notice the Star of David hanging above the fortune teller in Crysta? What does it mean?

In medieval times, Jews were known as “wizards” because they practiced black magic. Governments would make them wear pointed hats and armbands when they were public, (similar to what the Nazis did) so they could be identified. So, a Jewish fortune teller isn’t too far off.

Jews were expelled from England because they practiced blood libelling, an occult ritual.

The Hexagram has many Occult Uses and isn't limited to just what we call modern day judaism. Plus there are many hints through out history that the god's name that the jews worship is called moloch. Which is the beast Jesus referred to in the book of John.

Well that was a fun little rabbit hole to follow.

I wonder... When News Media Corporations profit from school shootings and other tragedies if that's an example of modern day Blood Libel.

10/10 for me because I played it as a kid. Realistically, it's a 6/10 because the gameplay has some problems. Almost no meaningful character progression, combat is a bit too simple, some weird puzzles out of nowhere then back to simple combat. One hell of a "difficulty" spike, you just need to grind a lot once you're in Europe.
Music is 10/10 either way and the full ending was the first time a game made me genuinely sad/happy. Also >>6101428 man that shit was rough as a kid.

First of all, it's not an RPG.

Bad gameplay. Honestly, did the 8-16bit era produce a better 2d top down action adventure game than LoZ? It is like they were not trying. Seeing how in recent times action games are more popular than jrpgs, it makes me wonder why the older games are so bad.

It is a pretty game, and has an interesting development. But at some point the exploration becomes uninteresting. The open world section could have learnt a lot of things from DQ3.

>> No.6101852

6 or 7
Everything in it fluctuates greatly from GOAT to utter dogshit.

The combat is fluid but after a while you quickly realise that you won't use half of the attack types including the normal jab since the lunge and airdive are all you need for most of the game and since the game has nothing but staff weapons it gets pretty repetitive after a while.
It's also insane that elemental properties barely get mentioned and don't play much of a role for almost the entire game outside of maybe one infamous boss battle that's over halfway through the game and also is the point that neatly shows just how wack the leveling system is.
One level above or below and can mean the difference between doing 1-3 damage or 10-30.
The magic system is probably one of the worst ones ever implemented. Not only can you do more damage with your normal attacks most of the time, the game also won't let you use it in certain situations where you'd actually WOULD want to. Not to mention that the system is poorly explained in certain translations where crystals seem to be considered as a secondary currency instead of the storage device that they actually are.
In fact, the German translation is complete garbage in that regard and even rewrites some stuff like turning Dark Gaia into two separate beings, Agarak and Ragnara.
Graphics-wise a lot of the sprites and cutscenes are stunning but some of the tilesets leave a lot to be desired. Especially the castle ones looked just plain ugly.
Music is top-notch all the way through, thou.

That seems to be a mostly-standard feature of JRPGs.

How do they even do that, anyway? Calculations-wise I mean. How do you get a +2 strength to mean 10x damage?

It's good, definitely better than Zelda, Earthbound and CT of course. What I don't like is how you're basically supposed to turn every village into a dystopian concrete shithole.

No, usually when you deal like no damage to a boss it's either a battle you're supposed to not win or it's one where you're supposed to do something specific.

I always think Americans downplay it for similar reasons. It's a bit of both.
The scope of the game, story, and music are great. The dungeons and world can feel a little empty though. Lots of weird overly detailed repeating patterns.
It was great to play when I was 13, and the ending and the music still stays with me to this day.

They weren't disposable.
That line by the mages was just poorly translated.
