Fuck dude, just imagine where the retro game market is gonna be in 2020.

Man, I don't want think about it. We're reaching the point where even well documented and highly successful games will start being lost to time without emulation.

Probably not good if recent trends is anything to go by. Seems like nearly everything is loosing value. NEARLY... those holy grails are about the only thing holding their value. And we'll see some Xbox, PS2 and PS3 shit go up in value. Might even see Xbox 360 games go up in value.

>> No.6101387

>>6101371
Zoomers don't play 6th gen games at original resolution. Dolphin is great. PS2 emulation is almost perfect, and PS2s can be easily softmodded. Xbox games are officially backward compatible and upscaled with Xbox One. The 5th gen didn't have the same price increase that 4th gen did and both are experiencing falling prices already.

Normies don't emulate or have modified consoles.

PS5 and Xbox Se.X could bring higher demand for previous generation discs.

Some PS2 shit has already gone up in value. Some. I was able to Snag a nice copy of R-Type Final for $8 over the weekend.

Amiga and Atari ST are cool from a historical perspective but they have no games.
Tandy 1000? I already have tons of MS-DOS machines.
ZX Spectrim? Not a bong and no games.
I have three Voodoo 5500s, one for Mac, and two for PC, one PCI the other AGP.
Why would I need a Roland Mt32 when it’s so easily emulated?
I don’t need or want a CGA monitor.
Sega genesis plays Master system games retard.
Channel F has no games

Wrong about Tandy 1000, it has a unique Dos experience.

But that's a good thing, means people like me can actually go buy the games instead of relying on alternative solutions to play them on real hardware. One of these days I'll finally be able to buy a real copy of Shadow Tower and not have to look at my shitty sharpie writing every time I play my burned cd.
As for 7th gen games going up in price, I highly doubt it. The amount of 360 games having been printed nearly outnumber the amount for PS2 games, and a lot of the later games don't actually have all the content on the disc so having the physical form matters far less to people. Only ones I actually see increasing in price are the ones that have become cult hits such as Nier or had legit low print runs like Afrika

Unfortunately PS3/Xbox 360 games will rise even more in value. This is due to the fact PS4 and Xbox One had nearly mostly multiplatforms and multiplayer games. There really was not as much exclusives or memorable games as there was on PS3/Xbox 360. Hopefully next gen does better.

There's your answer. Japan doesn't have the hyper-inflation of a "collector's market" because most game specialty stores will stock both old and new games, rather than it being a niche market. And they know old things shouldn't cost very much, because they're fucking old.

Nier is increasing in price because of Automata, not because it's a cult hit. I bought a copy for like $15 after Automata was announced but before it was released. I think you've got that backwards. PS3 and 360 had a much larger amount of multiplat multiplayer games than single player, and even less single player games that were something other than a boring Last of Us wannabe. Priced on most retro stuff is going to continue to decline. Gen X and Millennial nostalgia fags got in earlier in the 2010s, prices peaked around 2017, and have been on the steady decline since. Ultra rare stuff has held its value well, and in some cases even gone up, but 95% of everything else is on the downturn.

I don't see Gen 7 or 8 ever taking off in collectibility. I think Gen 6 might see a slight bump in the coming years, but not even close to what we saw with NES or SNES prices at one point. By the end of the 2020s I think retro collecting will be for the most part dead.

>> No.6107851

SNES and Genesis stuff is starting to dip in value, N64 prices have been total bullshit since a year or two ago.

I think a lot of people are latching onto the Genesis because those systems sell for so much cheaper comparatively. The retro games stores near me all had entire cabinets dedicated to Genesis games a few years ago, and now weirdly it's like a shelf or two. Hasn't seemed to effect the price much.

>> No.6107937

>>6101350
Get ready for Gen 6 allowance to invade and flood the board because with Gen 9 consoles coming out, the mods can no longer justify them being not retro, and unfortunately, you have to concede that even though most of the consoles ended production when Gen 7 launched in 2013 which was really late, once you hit over a decade past that date, it is pretty much retro unconditionally even talking about things non-gaming.

>>6107785
Game prices will keep being premium if there is a demand for platform exclusives with no PC equivalents. However, for original hardware, I think Gen 6 might never take off if PS2 emulation gets a lot better and Play! is going to probably be that factor. Gamecube is pretty good and Xbox does have some demand but not enough exclusives to justify for a single machine.

The retro game market is actually pretty good if you don't go after meme games. Really, so many good games can be had for prices below the price of retail games at the moment. i think it's obvious where things are going, most people emulate, pirate, or buy re-releases of old video games. the retro gamer crowd that cares about using original hardware and having a legit copy is pretty tiny. it wouldn't even surprise me to see a future where old games are not even bought to be played. eventually the shit will be traded back and forth, treated as an investment, almost like the fine art market.
