Hey VR,

So... I just got my Master System out and figured I might waste some money on upgrading my collection. Give me your thoughts on the best SMS games....

Well, it comes with the best MS game ever made.

That aside, if you want something really hard to find. Get X-men 3: Mojo World. BR only, 1996.

If you want something fun, Phantasy Star, Astro Warrior, Ys, and Wonder Boy games.

Nice.

I've got the original Wonder Boy - probably my most played game as a kid. What's the best game in the series? I know the other titles are pretty different...

>> No.610489

>>610483

You should get wonder boy 3, vastly superior.

>> No.610494

phantasy star 1 and Miracle warriors! one of the best rpgs ever made

>> No.610635

I've got a MS II with Alex Kidd in Miracle World - but my MS I doesn't have built in games.... Is that normal??

Miracle Warriors for that super old-school rpg feel.
Penguin Land is also pretty fun.

Yes!! Awesome soundtrack!

Dragon Crystal. Good luck finding a copy.

>> No.614708

Kenseiden.

It's a bit like a non-linear Castlevania,but in medieval Japan, and you're a samurai. Shitrox.

>> No.614709

Zillion is pretty cool.

>> No.615294

Was lucky/unlucky enough to own the system from U.S. launch as a lad. Most of these suggestions are a great start.

Don't have it anymore but here are some memories from childhood:

The R-type for master system has levels that aren't in the arcade game. It's also absolutely beautiful for a home console at the time.

Rastan is a fun Conan ripoff.

Don't bother with the genesis ports.
Vigilante was O.K. there was a very decent karate beat em up that had karate in the title that I remember liking.

I played several licensed games. They all suck.

Also the first Rambo game is devilishly hard.

Horeshit. The MS version of Castle of Illusion was fucking solid.

Agreed. Castle of Illusion was great.

Anyone else love Psycho Fox????

Since we're on the subject of SMS, does the Power Base Converter for Genesis support FM sound?

>> No.615614

>>615375
I don't think so. The board in it is pretty well devoid of fancy chips, but before some faggot stole mine, I never had any games that could do FM sound. I may as well get the Mark III.

>> No.617050

Anyone got an opinion regarding if Outrun on the SMS is worth owning/playing???

>> No.617060

>>617050
Completely disregard the Genesis ports (unless you are a collection completionist).

>> No.617084

>>617050
best version is Outrun Europa, emulate it though as the physical copy is rare and rather costly

>> No.617108

>>617084
That was my favourite game as a kid, but i sold it with my console and the rest of my games for $20.

now i can't find it cheap anywhere.

From what I hear, a copy of Outrun 3D with the 3D glasses is quite a collector's item. Be on the lookout for it.

On mine - pressing up and both buttons opens a crappy maze game. Is my sega just a cunt??

>> No.623412

Good to see other fans of Miracle Warriors, I played the shit out of it but never finished it. Had a hand drawn map of the world that was like 4 pages taped together.

Different models have different games built in. The older models have a maze game called Snail Maze. Later models have Alex Kidd in Miracle World, or whatever. I don't know them all.

>> No.627064

>>615362
From what I remember of playing it, it was infuriating because of no health, and I don't think you could jump on foes. I know the gameplay was taken and put into Decap Attack on Genesis, and I love that game. I should give Psycho Fox another go.

how dare you speak ill of the mighty Snail Maze sir, though even after all these years the music still seeps into my head unbidden quite a bit which can get weird
