This is probably retro gaming blasphemy. But 3rd gen just doesn't do it for me.
A very small amount of 3rd gen games do I like.
Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3, Legend of Zelda, and Phantasy Star is all I like.

I think the Odyssey and pong consoles are fun, the 2600 has lots of games I like and love to play.
Genesis, Snes, n64, so on... I like a lot of games from those gens.

But gen 3 doesn't really do it for me, I can barely stand their games for more the 5 minutes usually.

Do I have bad taste, or was gen 3 just really weak in hindsight?

I don't like:
Earthbound Beginnings
Balloon fight
Ice Climbers
Super mario bros. 2
Zelda 2
Alex Kidd
Ninja Gaiden
Metroid
Punchout
duck hunt
contra
Kid Icarus
Bubble Bobble
Simon's quest

I guess I like Tetris, but does that really count?

NES is great. Rest of that era overall was pretty bad. The late 80s wasn't all that great for gaming outside of the NES.

None of them, you just don't seem to like late 80s consoles. I feel a lot of NES games have great replay value, even if they're not masterpieces or classic games and I've tried a few Master System and late DOS games that were incredible to me but I can see why you don't like them.
To each their own.

Gen 3 is really strong, full of well made and influential titles that hold up well today. I'd love to see what your process for playing games is. It would be interesting to sit down with you and play "Snake Rattle N Roll" or something just to see how you approach games in general.

for gen 1, obviously pong. can never go wrong with that. I've played the weird dot games with overlays (not the originals, like a sheet made to function like them) and had fun.

For gen 2 I love centipede, space invaders, Mars Cavern (if I remember the name right), Moon Patrol, and so on.

>>6083628
Not including modern games, dreamcast and before
1. Sonic Adventure 2
2. Super Mario rpg
3. Sonic 2
4. Banjo Kazooie
5. Donkey Kong Country

More of a platformer whore desu

Hmm, I would think that you'd love a lot of Master System and NES games because both consoles got a lot of sidescrolling platformer games. They're hard to compare to the ones in your list but then again they're all later gen games so it's to be expected that they look and sound nicer in hindsight.

Try Metal Storm, Darkwing Duck, and Wacky Races for NES. They're easy to get into, have tight controls, and have relaxing cartoony atmospheres like the games on your favorites list (except for Metal Storm).
