Ehhhh... it's not especially good, but not totally crap. Play it once at most and then move.

Chaotix is fun but the controls are broken. The music is great.

Just try for yourself and see. It's more fun in two player, as it's clearly meant to be played. It's much easier to control, but even then, we just rubber-banded up and down through thin air, bouncing around the level until we lucked into the end. The Special Stages were the only parts where I felt like I had any success on purpose. I don't know if I just wasn't playing correctly, but it's even harder to control in Single Player. Not that it doesn't feel natural. It makes sense. It's just not easy to go where you want.

>> No.6074649

someone should take all the assets from chaotix and make a real sonic game out of it

or hell, make it a knuckles game and focus on exploration instead of speedrunning

This
It's worth it if you like Sanic, and since 32X didn't have its own Sanic game.

>> No.6074696

It's one of those situations where it had a good plan but poor execution. The music is very amazing though. Give it a shot.

It's basically just as gimmicky and style/concept over substance as Sonic CD but it doesn't have any of the things that make Sonic CD still worth playing. It's a Sonic game so obviously the music is pretty good. The overall game feels lifeless and empty and gimmicky though, the level design sucks and everything is gimmicked up, generally walking around is a gimmick, which partner you have is a gimmick, hell even which level you play is a gimmick.

It's way too easy. It's clear the devs had little faith in the elastic mechanics (which I personally found simple to use and didn't have much trouble with), which is why the levels don't really push its limits and why there's a failsafe mapped to one of the buttons (spend ten rings to recall your partner in case they're stuck). Additionally, the Charmy & Heavy combo invalidates most of the 'challenge' the game's levels have to offer. In general, the characters are unbalanced - why should I bother with Vector and his one airdash and large hurtbox when I can play Knuckles who has a glide and can climb on walls, or Charmy who can airdash forever? There are some functions that are enjoyable to learn, like Espio with his tricky wall run and Mighty with his wall jumps, but because the levels are designed to be cleared with any character these cool techniques don't demand any mastery from you. Its lacking difficulty and compromised level design makes the game a lot less engaging and trivialises most of its interesting mechanics.

it’s pretty fun, but only worth one playthrough

I was one of the few with a 32X back in the day. Begged my mom to get me one even though she kept telling me I was a retard and the new systems were coming out in less than a year, she still got me one. Piece of shit came without several clips and plugs it needed to work and I had to wait weeks before they were sent and I could use it.

I liked playing Knuckles, Doom, a pretty cool multiplayer spaceship game that I think was called Feather, or something like that (one player would control the ship and the other would point the guns, Panzer Dragoon style, it was fun with my bro). There was also a game where you would play as a hummingbird called Kilibri that was going for a Ecco The Dolphin type of shtick, but I don't really remember if I liked it or not

It's not great. Visuals and music are nice but level design is a shit CTRL+C CTRL+V job.

You dont actually need those clips. The manual claims they're RF shields, though.

I kinda want to do an analysis to see of all the shields actually makes any kind of difference at all

yeah but there was something missing from the box it needed to work, I think it was a little wire that went from there 32X to the Genesis

The 32X had its own sound chip. Either way, the actual Genesis sound chip is capable of good music in the right hands

hi op here im playing it and its really good what the fuck.

i agree with >>6075078 the most. the only challenge i've faced so far is getting a time up because i got extremely lost in a really confusing level.

im having a blast with the elastic ring system. it's a little fucky but it's not super hard to get used to. i think the only reason it gets shit on so much is because it's NOT a sonic game and you have to play by it's rules.

Chaotix is a great "get high and get immersed in a game world" kind of game for die-hard Sonic/Sonic Team fans.
The aesthetics, music and feel is there, but if you're sober and want an actual good game, like the Genesis quadrilogy, then you won't find it there.

Not worth buying a 32x over but if you're emulating it's worth a play.

>> No.6078000

It would of been much better without the tethering rubber band gimmick. The music, colors, and other graphical enhancements the 32X offered could of made such an excellent sonic game

>> No.6078030

Imagine sonic stages, but completely empty. Now take those empty stages and imagine having to run around attached to a semi-randomly picked character (some of which are literally troll characters that barely move). Does any of the above sound fun to you?

>> No.6078041

>>6078030
i'm actually have a really good time with it. it's just not a traditional sonic game, it seems a lot of people go in expecting sonic style arcade action when it's really more of an action puzzle game almost.
