Anyone else here curate their MAME romsets? Instead of dumping a full set of crap or picking out like 5 games, actually going through the entire MAME library and picking stuff out? Latest version I have has 2001 games and 1045 if you don't count clones. All hand-picked. Also, I'm using Arcade, which removes 99% of the crap that's been added the past decade or so.

Yeah, no, you're a retard. This shit is obscure as fuck. I found it searching "ArcadeFix" MAME and it's like the 5th result and the forum looks like this. Holy shit.

Anyway, the point wasn't to download someone else's curated set, it's to build it yourself to see what games you really like.

I will see what his curated set looks like anyway. I'm willing to bet it's a dumpster fire, though!

Yeah, ok, I don't even need to download this to know it's a dumpster fire. It's all in a giant .zip that I can't really look into anyway, but just from the file size I can tell this is NOT a curated set, but just everything in MAME thrown in together that's not slot machine bullshit, which is similar to what Arcade does anyway. The entire size of my set, including CHDs, is 13.3 GB. This guy's ROMs alone are 20.1 GB. There is no way in hell this is curated to any serious degree.

Like if I hear about an interesting game I just grab it from the archive and drop it into the ROM directory. If it needs a CHD then that too of course.

Are you guys doing anything differently here? I'm defintitely going through the entire thing, checking out every title on Youtube or something like that. That would be crazy. I have ~300 games installed. I'd post the exported.txt but I can't (banned).

I never said BSNES was the only option, I said it was the superior option. It's the only SNES emulator with HD Mode 7 AND the ability to play SMW romhacks before they figured out they were fucking up sound. It's more accurate and has more useful features than any other SNES emulator.

And that's the entire point of a focus on accuracy. Eventually the program will become the best available. Focusing on making it just werk now means it will eventually get left in the dust like ZSNES, NESticle, or Final Burn Alpha.

I didn't do it all at once. It was a culmination of playing ROMs for almost 2 decades.

Looking at my list, there are

15 SNES games

12 NES games

12 Genesis games

6 PCE/CD games

7 PS1 games

42 arcade games

3 GBA games

3 Saturn games

A couple criteria:

>no RPGs, SRPGs, etc
>no fighting games (I think playing fighting games alone is kinda pointless)

I played almost every single ROM released, except RPGs and other text-heavy games.

It's not necessarily a list of the "best games on the system" or whatever. Because there are many good games that I purposely didn't include in my list. It's simply a list of good games that I really like.

That's not on you. At the current time those two don't run. They never did.

SF3 though? That one's on you. Most like your ROM version doesn't match your emulator version which can cause the game not to work. So make sure MAME and ROM are of the same version. If you're downloading ROMs from a source that does not state the ROM's version, you should evidently stop doing that. Site's like that are worthless for MAME stuff really.

Anyway, as was already pointed out, the best way to play SF3 is the NO CD variant. Unlike other versions it boots instantly and does not require the CHD. The ROM is called sfiiinr1.zip and shows up in MAME as (Japan 990512, NO CD). It is a clone variant of the game and for those to run requires the parent ROM to be present as well - which in this case is called sfiii3.zip. So you need both sfiii3.zip (parent) and sfiiinr1.zip (clone) to run the NO CD clone.

The parent game will actually not run in this scenario. It itself requires the CHD because well, it's not the NO CD version and that data is storen in the CHD.

No BIOS files are needed to run Street Fighter 3.
