But instead of Mustangs & GTOs, it’s musty N64s & 3DOs. How long will it take for the market to normalize? Because I picked the wrong time to be getting back into this shit.

N64 prices has been high for years now, half because the console is hard to emulate, half because, to this day, it is still the ultimate party console. The only thing better than setting up a N64 with four controllers to play with your bros is having a lan party, but no one has space for that now a days.

That honestly isn't a bad deal. It just sucks because you most likely already own some of those games but if you don't then why not? If it was 10$ a game that would be 500$ which is pretty average for the crappy games. Games like Conker's and Mario Tennis and Smash Bros go for 50-100 depending on your market. The system is worth about 40-50 on the lower end (I would never pay more than 20 though) as far as what's available right now. This is a good deal if you liked the N64 but don't have one now or don't have any games.

BUT (and this is a big one) a flashcart is 200-300 dollars and plays every game without the shelf space and hassle of changing carts. I already got a flashcart and I've had my N64 since launch day and I'm loving it. I can finally play games that I wouldn't normally buy (like Toy Story) and have fun.

You now realize this is what the "30 year old boomer" meme was actually about. It was never about erroneously referring to people of an arbitrary age as part of the baby boomer generation, it was about comparing their behavior to their literal boomer parents. 30 year old boomers still care about cars, except now they're all about Japanese shitboxes that they singlehandedly shoah'd, like the ae86 or s13.

s13 were already getting ruined by the drift missile crowd. Even back in the early 2000’s those things were getting wrapped around trees and lampposts in mass. Back when millennials were still in high school and still driving their parents old 96 ford windstar.

The ae86 only because “zomg le maymay anime car from the cartoon show now I can drive to the store and buy pokey and yell desu at people” crowd. Blame initial d on that one, I see gen x-ers who drive around in those things with fujiwara tofu stickers too. So everyone is to blame for that.

What you can blame millennials for though is the explosion in price of the sporty Kei cars like the Autozam, Cappuccino, and Beat. It is ridiculous how much those things go for especially since they can’t really do highway speeds. So really they are just around town cruisers. Like a four wheeled moped. But it’s just hipsters who buy them and never use them, then I a couple years from now will sell them at stupid inflated prices. NO LOW BALLERS I KNOW WHAT I HAVE. Just like their boomer parents.

The "Corolla GTS", as its know, is a fairly rare car in the states, due to a combination of factors such as being more expensive than an optioned out Corolla sedan/wagon, exclusively sold in manual, built in Japan and thus metal was not conditioned for American salt-roads and were literally rotted to death, perceived as having little value when the parents had to sell the car to help finance the then-new rollover Explorer, and of course being plowed into by literally every other car. I highly doubt an anime that had limited American distribution, in the early 2000s and not after that, could only be seen subtitled through dodgy downloads, and only became relevant due to YouTube memes was much of a factor. There were probably like 50K GTSes ever sold in the states, and that number's probably down to like 1000 that are known to still exist, both on the road and in junkyards.

This. Essentially it was a hidden gem in the same sense of Earthbound. They were hard to come by at first and nobody really cared about them. A few years later and everything is FWD and Automatic and then you see these small sporty ('sporty') cars are fairly lightweight and RWD which is pretty cool. Then as soon as this gem was discovered the prices started to increase and then the Anime became popular in like 2004-2010 and the prices became unobtainable within reason.

When I turned 34 and had a decent job I decided to splurge and get an N64 setup. Console plus 4 controllers with expansion pak was $70. Everdrive 64 v 2.5 cost $115. Finally I picked up the retrotink 2x for about 100. BUT it has been amazing playing the games I played the shit out of when I was 11-17. Yes Mario and Zelda can be emulated pretty well. But several other games I wanted to play worked like shit. I have no regrets taking the plunge. The N64 should last forever with the cart mechanic.

I'd say prices won't go up much further because only weirdo's collect actual game cartridges. Who has the space for all that, and it doesn't even look that great on shelves. I have over 1500 books. Fuck games taking up that much space.

I am interested in getting a CRT setup for cheap. But I'm really not sure if it's worth it. I currently don't have a dedicated space for it.

If other antique / collectible markets are anything to go buy, you have to wait for the fans to start dying. Look at Elvis memorabilia or anything else literal boomers like.

A less doomsday estimate would be a decade or two. The market for old shit like Atari 2600 is a vision of the future of N64. It's all in cycles based on when that generation gets decent jobs and has money to burn.

Who said I’m poor, copeasaurus rex? I can afford to pay the ‘buy it now’ chink/spic resaler price for every game in the n64 library 10 fold. Doesn’t mean I’m going to because that’s fucking retarded. The games are mostly clunky and look like absolute dog shit on new tv’s, even the ones with the rgb/hdmi mods. Just wanted some feedback on what the trends have been, because it seems like 30-something nostalgia tourists, and not collectors, are driving the prices. once people realize everything looks like shit, there’s gonna be a surplus of this stuff for sale again and not enough buyers, meaning the prices will inevitably drop. You're wrong about your "investments". Popular electronics are not the same as classic automobiles, although classic cars have already begun to dip and price by and large as the market sees a new generation of car enthusiasts who are interested in vehicles from the 1980s and 1990s, and NOT the 1970s and 1960s.

The difference is that what we saw in the boomers and even the greatest generation is that those people didn't re-engage with toys and childlike hobbies until they were at least middle aged if not older.

That is not happening with Generation Z and early millennial. These people are re-buying their childhood antiques in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. It's happening early.

You're right that it was different ten years ago, and while you'll never see those mid-2000s eBay lots of a SNES and 50 games for $60 or $70 bucks, the market will not continue to support--let alone inflate--something like a copy of Smash 64 or Super Mario 64 for $30 to $60 dollars.

Now if you want to talk about how rare games will be expensive for a long time, yes, they will be. You'll never find Conker or Chrono Trigger in a bargain bin barring a miracle. Chinese repros sold as genuine articles to semi-savvy buyers and increasing awareness of the everdrive will dilute the market somewhat, but the demand is only barely allowing these high prices as it is. Furthermore, this is a fucking eBay auction. I don't want to blow your mind but there are a lot of people on eBay with high hopes.

Here's my big money tip: the PS2 generation is already starting to show up at the secondhand electronics stores of the world, and those games are and were trivially easy to destroy. You'll be paying $25 bucks for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and $50 for Road Trip Adventure before you know it.

>> No.6081004

>>6077726
The cream of this crop, no, not yet, because the market has been so set into stone for so long on that stuff.

But lesser memorabilia, yes. And lemme tell you pal, Goemon Mystical Ninja is not the Beatles. It's an inflated market because the market is currently putting up with it. It's not going to deflate overnight, but $40 bucks for like Super Mario 64? That shit won't last. People are getting cucked into dropping $70 bucks on Smash 64? That's the 5th best-selling N64 game of all time. They sold five and a half million copies of that fucking thing.

Worth considering though that the biggest issue in the old games market is scarcity that's somewhat artificial due to the amount of old games that will likely never re-enter the used market because they're sitting in a box in a basement, and will sit in that box until that person (or really that persons parents) die and they get thrown away.

I love snide shit like this. What is the implication here? That you were smart for returning to your childhood ten years before everyone else did? Or is the implication that this stuff has any true value at all?

Somebody already made a comment in this thread alluding to this, but go to your local Disc Replay or Media Reload or whatever and ask for the broken plastic bin full of Atari 2600 games that are all fifty cents. Offload your trash now man. That's your future. There's some discernible curve to how SNES and Genesis stuff has risen over the past fifteen years, but the N64 boom has been the most artificial shit of all time. If the N64 had been a disc system those games would all be $2.99, but it wasn't, so everyone is ponying up to the jewtendo cuck tax but it won't last.

Other games will slowly rise and fall, but man is this N64 thing a little island. I hope you don't think this stuff counts as assets. You might as well invest in etherum.
