This is the last real need for speed, before it turned into "pimp your Dodge Neon with a ballin body kit skeet skeet skeet"

Everyone understands that Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit comes before Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 in the series, right?

Nah man, obviously NFS3 hadn't been released yet when NFS2: hot pursuit was released. Don't you know how to count?

I remember when my NFS3 disc broke, it had a tiny hole in the data layer. I have no clue how it got there, almost looked like someone took a needle and poked it through. Anyway, after a few hours of being distraught over my favorite game being broken and my dad trying to come up with ways of fixing it, my mom helpfully suggested calling around to different gamestops and seeing if they had any copies.

I called 5 different places, 4 of the guys who picked up had no clue what I was talking about and insisted that I meant "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2" because obviously that was the second game in the series because it had a "2" in the title, which resulted in my parents getting to hear 10-year-old me say, "I feel old". The last guy was the only one who knew what I was talking about and thought it was really cool that I was into NFS too, but also said they didn't have any copies.

Fast forward several years and I find out not only have there been a bunch of new games in the series (I liked video games, but my parents didn't let me subscribe to gaming magazines because "you'll get addicted and it'll become your life", as if that was gonna stop me), but they were also in a neat little collection that conveniently slipped into my parents' "one game per six months" rule. That's how I spent a month or two of allowance on NFS: Porsche Unleashed, High Stakes, HP2, and Underground while simultaneously discovering that High Stakes was basically NFS3: hot pursuit but better.

I like NFS3 but that was it for retro NFS games.

I didn't really get into High Stakes and then didn't revisit the series until NFS:HP2.

HP2 came out only 3 years after High Stakes. It seems like it was a long time but there were only two games between HP and HP2.

I remember being really confused googling the lyrics for that and they were completely different since the game had the ‘clean’ version

is the difficulty in porsche unleashed fucked up? I try playing on expert and it's about average if I use a shitty model porsche. Tried downloading a save with all the tracks unlocked and it's way too easy. I can't undo any upgrades.

It also kinda follows the same pattern in terms of gameplay quality too doesn't it? I'm not very familiar with CoD, but I've heard CoD4>MW2>MW (though CoD4 and MW2 are sometimes swapped, depending on the person), and the similar is kinda true of NFS3>HP2>HP. Additionally both Modern Warfare and Hot Pursuit are/were an attempt to return the series to its roots, right?

>> No.6072694

>>6072647
Hot Pursuit 2010 only returned to the series' roots thematically speaking, because the prior ones were all tuner ricing, closed circuit, or action games. The actual gameplay is not a return to the roots, because it was basically a Burnout game with weapons made by Criterion, although it was a really fun spin off game.
