ITT: games that people only say are bad because they didn't play them

Legacy of darkness was essentially CV64 Director's Cut, and the extra content and polish made the game pretty damn solid.
Henry mode is coolest

I played it and I loved every second of it as a hardcore, die-hard Castlevania fan that used to frequent the Castlevania Dunjeon forums and everything. But I still say it's fucking awful.
Seriously though, it's not unplayable and has its upsides, but it's a bad game all around.

I don't know what they changed but platforming was a pain in the ass in cv64

I love it because I'm a Castlevania fanboy. Give me any sort of trash with a CV soundtrack and some castle-crawling and I'll find a way to enjoy it. But it was me being able to find enjoyment even in LoD of all things, not the game providing an easy source of it.

There were only a few really bad design choices. Like this guy's comical falling down animation and his endless chicken drumsticks, the game turned instantly from gothic horror to slapstick

Most of it was slapstick. Controls were experimental weirdness, level design was thoroughly confused, graphics were fun but weird. It was an all around 5/10 kind of deal. I.e. still very much enjoyable for a Castlevania fan, but pretty much worthless for anyone else.

BUBSY BAD is a zoomer meme.

The first 16-bit game was fun and well above average platformer, while the second one was okay. Neither are "bad" games.
The Gameboy and Jaguar versions are irrelevant because no one is referencing those ports when they trash the Bubster, but they do kinda suck.
I think the negativity around Bubsy is solely drawn from viewing Bubsy 3D through the post-Mario64 lens, which isn't really fair.

I played this and the original C64 this year for the first time. Loved them both. Nice atmosphere, great music, fun combat, though admittedly I did rebind the buttons on a PS4 pad so it was a lot more fun to play than what I imagine the N64 controller could offer, but regardless, both are some of my favorite Castlevanias now.

I appreciate the improvements it made to things like platforming and the camera, but I felt the design of many segments in its initial campaign are inferior to the original release. Placing an awful escort mission in the hedgemaze being a prime example.
Castlevania 64 has its issues but I'd actually rather play it over Legacy of Darkness as I think its design is a bit simpler and flows a bit better. Plus you can't play as Reinhardt, the most Classicvania character available, right off the bat. The game has its janky bullshit but it feels more like a Castlevania game to me when it comes to the initial campaign.
As a total package, Legacy of Darkness is the superior game. I just like the immediacy of grabbing a fucking whip and going after Dracula that the original release offers.
I don't think either of them are great games though. They're both alright, but when it comes to 3Dvania, for me, it's Lament of Innocence.

I rented it from Blockbuster back in the day and didn't like it. Back in like 2003 someone tried to force it on me because they didn't want it polluting their collection.

I love Legacy Of Darkness. Everyone bitches about the camera, but it's not bad once you learn to zoom it all the way out, and use the shoulder button to always center it.

Honestly, there's not a better action game on the system, and I doubt the Playstation could even handle it.

It's N64 as fuck, and a damn fine game when it was released. I just wished they took the time to finish it, instead of giving us the beta release a year earlier.
