I really liked Bomberman Hero.

The soundtrack is absolutely amazing mix of jungle and drum 'n' bass music.
The boss fights are pretty fun stuff, Nitro is a real pain in the ass, but he feels pretty genuinely challenging.
A couple of levels have secret exits, and you're rewarded for exploring everything around you.
You have tons of maneuvers available to you and different attacks and ways to deal with enemies.
Tons of replay value for autistically getting the highest score possible. They even cranked up the autism for the English release by making clear point requirements harder.
Fucking bomber change. Fly, swim, snowboard. Even more options!

It got mixed reviews at the time from game publishers for not having multiplayer. It was one of my favorite games for a long time.

What do you think?

music is great
game itself is pretty eh, didn't like it

Music is amazing, and I still think it is. I never realized how low the framerate was but it's pretty fun as far as 3d platformers go and it's fun taking risky jumps. I honestly found ZERO of the secret exits as a kid and even when playing it last year. I could listen to that music on an endless loop.

I sold my whole N64 collection after grabbing an Everdrive, but Bomberman Hero was the one game I kept. Spend a lot of my childhood playing this game. Favorite game on that console and probably a big influence on why I like Drum & Bass now.

It's alright. Very typical early 3D platformer type stuff.
The music though is great. If I was a N64 kid I probably would've grown to like jungle/DnB music from this game instead of Ape Escape.

And all of these were unbearable and low points of the already mediocre and drab game.

While we're at it: Whats the consensus on the Second Attack?
I loved 64 and Hero as a kid so I've been thinking about emulating this, but something about it feels a bit too "different" to me to jump right in

I liked them a lot. I'm sorry you didn't, but they were really fun for me.

It's the same as 64 but with less bomb-jumping and more Pokemon evolution. Bosses are fucking great.

The boss fights are great.
The levels are fun.
The style is strange and interesting.
The framerate is awful

I love the pommy stuff. Plus it let my little bro play with me. Good times. Better times.

You could probably think of jungle as a sub-genre of DNB, or even consider them synonyms. I tend to think of jungle as being more Amen Break- and sampling-focused than "cleaner" sounding drum and bass like Pendulum or whatever.

Was my all time favorite game as a kid.

Kind of hard for me to go back to now. Story cutscenes can go on a long time especially at the start, and some levels really give you the run around. But if you like Bomberman 64 or Bomberman in general I highly recommend at least trying the game.

That's for the single player.

As for multiplayer, I think it's hands down the best in the entire series which isn't something I say lightly.
