This is the absolute best. A light RPG with combat and a little adventure that is completely centered around fishing. Fishing is like a better more fleshed out version of Links Awakening. Lots of different species, environments, tackle, rods, and gear.

Also has a fishtank simulator tacked on.

I have no idea what drew me to this random ass game as a kid but i played it for dozens of hours and I still have my cartridge and it still holds up.

That's considered one of the best ones.

Personally I prefer these:

The Blue Marlin (NES)
Super Black Bass (SNES)
Bassin's Black Bass (SNES)
Fishing Resort (Wii)
Fishing Derby (Atari 2600)

Not only is this picture real, but the guy who took it was just someone who happened to be passing by, not a friend of the player.

I spent hours playing that fishing game as a kid.
I've played fishing games that are literally just fishing games and not many compete with OoT fishing.
Why the fuck couldn't you catch them in BotW? You can catch them by hand, but not by rod. WHY.

I've actually done this with real fish at a beach one, only with noisy splashing. It actually is a real phenomenon.
Whales and Dolphins do something very similar.

You need to play fishermans bait 2: big old bass, sometimes it's also known as just big old bass 2, or fishermans bait: big old bass 2, depending on region. (PSX)

It has a visual novel style monster fishing story where you have to fish up imaginary fish from various mythical style lakes around the world, such as cursed fish from under pyramids, alongside a normal fishing game in normal real world lakes.

You can catch monster fish that weigh several tons.

Reel fishing 1 and 2 are also decent on the PSX.
