Riddle me this: were there any franchises whose later snes entries were more challenging than their nes predecessors? I can't think of any. For example, battletoads, ghosts n goblins, adventure island, Zelda, metroid, castlevania, Megaman, even mario, all of their 16 bit sequels are markedly easier compared to their 8 bit older siblings

If the game has passwords then using passwords is not cheating. Using savestates is always cheating. Cheating is of course the correct way to practice without wasting time, but you can't claim you've beaten a game until you've done it without cheating.

Not harder, more aggravating. First time I played through Zelda 2, I savescummed the shit out of it, and the most difficult part of the playthrough was timing saves. I played through it legit on the 3DS eshop years later and realized just how much savescumming robs the experience from you.

Battletoads is hard, I think?

Silver Surfer is vastly overrated here; it's kinda crappy and has good music but isn't actually very hard.

Some of those really old games that use the Japanese try-everything-until-something-works style of hiding essential paths for advancement deserve mention here. Legacy of the Wizard or Milon's Secret Castle count, I think? I'm sure there are lots of games like that.

I can't think of any hard games on the SNES. There are RELATIVELY hard ones like Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, but surely the hardest game on the console would be tougher than that.

That's only true if the game has passwords, and the passwords include all game state (which is very rare), and you only use save states on the password screen.

Ninja Gaiden is perfectly fine and slow enough for even old folk reflexes to beat it in one run.

Battletoads is the hardest on imput, TMNT the hardest on RNG.

>> No.6047878

>>6047464

What is dangerously random in TMNT? You get the enemy sets flipped randomly, sure, but normal enemies aren't a big deal except in the final hallway. There's the Technodrome location thing, but that's not a huge problem if you're reasonably careful in those caves.

Journey To Silius. Maybe not, I just remember playing it a while ago and having a hard time on the later levels.

Also the extra mode of Kirby Adventure is a good challenge.
>If the player beats the main game with 100%, they automatically get Extra Mode as an option in the menu. In Extra Mode, Kirby has only three hit points, half as much health as normal, and his progress is not saved. If this mode is completed, the player is rewarded with the Sound Test option in the menu.

Act Raiser 2 is a hard game, you have a decent amount of moves like the flying maneuver but 80% of the screen is a bad spot to be in. I see this game as sort of acrobatic in a way that you have to practice it to execute it in a stylish fashion, that is my take on why it always shows you a demo of the player character cruising through the final level of Actraiser 1.

U.N Squadron is a side scroll shooter with good amount of options to select for your airships, great ost and variety of levels. You can even tank one or two hits if you get in trouble but eventually the game gets progressively harder and cant stop you if you don't get good.

Run Saber is a strider clone from Atlus with floaty controls but a coop mode, I remember it being kind of challenging.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is a HARD game.

R-Type 3 is some sort of puzzle game disguised as a side scroll shooter, you have to go through trial and error with different options and paths filled with traps and hazards.

Arcade type games like Smash TV and Total Carnage are also hard but that is to be expected.

Prince of Persia can get a little confusing and you need to know the limits of every movement available.

Equinox is a unique game in the SNES and kind of charming but it has a problem of perception (or maybe it's just me) from the isometric view and the platforming.
