I'm looking for weird off the wall humour, strange art style, bizarre mechanics, memorable story. All that good stuff.

The image is a PS2 game, but he's on /vr/ so he's clearly asking for weird retro games, so relax. If he posted a PS1 game you'd just find something else wrong with it.

Most truly strange games I feel were made before 2005, so I feel its a good thread for /vr/

Anyway, a few weird games I've played are

>Captain Novolin (SNES)
>Panic (Sega CD)
>Seaman (Dreamcast),
this is a really popular choice when discussing weird games, but especially for me because I played it as a kid before being able to just google "weird games" and get results. It was an experience.
>Bakuden: Unbalance Zone (Sega CD)
>Roommania #203 (Dreamcast)
>The Ooze (Sega Genesis)

That's just a few off the top of my head. I'm very appreciative of old weird games, I feel that they were especially plentiful on the dreamcast and PS2

I highly recommend this documentary which covers a lot of Dreamcast games including Seaman. Starting at 44:40 the head designer discusses the creation of the game, and 50 minutes in is the highlight. Very fascinating to hear his thoughts on the creation of the game. It sort of de-mystifies it but you really get to see how deliberate the mysterious nature of the whole thing is.

Same Anon here, just thought of another weird "game" I played years ago.

Its not really a game per se, but a travel guide for the OG game boy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJUdv7fFsk4

Might not sound too weird, but there was something really surreal about loading up this ROM randomly one day and being able to find information about the small chicagoland suburb I grew up in being coded into a gameboy cartridge from the 90s.

I skipped to the seaman section as you suggested, gonna have to give the entire vid a watch later.

I'm surprised that the seamonkey toy is a known thing in Japan, but that absolutely makes sense as a source of inspiration for the game. My brothers got a dreamcast immediately after they were discontinued and the console + games were very cheap. Playing seaman as a child was very creepy and mysterious.

Dreamcast might be my fav console due to the amount of oddities you can find on it. Nowadays, you can really only find that level of experimentation in the Indie scene. Not to mention the unique design of the console + controller itself. It has a special place in my heart.

Posted ps2 game because I meant games of that nature. Maybe I should have used an Earthbound picture or something so you'd get off your high horse made of dicks

Doesn't the Moon one have an English translation that's being worked on? Because I'm super interested in that.

The weirdest thing about this game is the VERY personal bitchfight between Yahtzee and Gabe when they played it.

Love-De-Lic is retro.

Staff worked on Love-A-Live and Super Mario RPG, whoever wasn't hired by Alphadream/Camelot/Brownie Brown, joined LDL for 3 games before they went their separate ways and worked on more weird stuff, Chulip included.

>>6039283
>Captain Novolin (SNES)
Nice post, but that game is more appropriate in a favorite kusoge thread.
