Horribly unbalanced (though this can allegedly be fixed with a mod that I haven't tried), but makes up for it with a unique urban decay aesthetic and great environments and cool shit like NPC interaction, in-game weapon shops, and the ability to hire companions with at-the-time unrivaled A.I. (it was YEARS before companion A.I. in shooters caught up to Kingpin). There's also almost unbelievable amounts of cursing, which, as this thread should show, is kind of what the game is more remembered for. It is not uncommon for a sentence of spoken dialogue to have as many curse words and non-curse words.

I dont understand what the fuck they were thinking with the difficulty in this game. Im not the greatest player in the world, but im decent at retro shooters like duke, blood, quake, etc. But this shit feels fucking impossible to me. It takes a million shots to take out the basic grunt guys, and they have no reaction time. Plus you get no money for ammo. Pisses me off.

The point is that in the beginning of the game, you're a good for nothing little shit. If you persevere, the game will get easier once you acquire better guns and hire henchmen.

also, don't waste money in upgrading the pistol and shit, just focus on the shotgun and the machine gun. Try to avoid multiple confrontation, and try to approach as possible the grunt with the shotgun, aim the head, and boom.
