Never understood the hate the US SNES gets. Sure it looks different from the Super Famicom, but it's not like it's oversized (like the NES was compared to the Famicom), and honestly I think the design looks pretty stylish, and the color scheme is also tasteful, I'd even argue it's more tasteful than the 4-colored buttons on the SFC, even if the SFC clover logo is iconic and I love it too.
That said, the hate for the US SNES I only see it online, IRL I've never met anyone who thinks it looks bad. Might be a sort of hot take thing that's common online, or maybe it's some sort of anti-Nintendo of America thing? I'd understand if that's the case since NoA sucked in many regards, but the design of the console has nothing to do with their policies.
At any rate, I love both for their own merits, I own both NTSC models.

Both are pretty good. It's ok if you prefer one over the other, the problem comes when people start "OMGGGG what is this abominatioooooon!!!" as if the US SNES was some kind of OG Xbox-looking thing.

My thoughts exactly. The mix of purple/lavender buttons was pretty unique and immediately iconic. I still instantly recall the SNES whenever I see purple and lavender together. I think the only thing I don't like about the SNES is the weird scalloping around the base, which you usually can't even see anyway.

Back when I first saw the Super Famicom design, I think my knee-jerk reaction was to like it better just because it was different to me, but I like it less and less every time I see it. I forget the dude at NoA who said the biggest reason they redesigned the SNES was because they wanted it to look good "stacked" on things, back when they were planning the SNES disc drive and other add-ons. He likened the Super Famicom as looking like a "saggy loaf of bread" or something, and I have to say I entirely agree with him. In pictures from above it looks decent, but in person, from most angles, it does seem a bit frumpy and "saggy".

I like the American version better because I grew up with it.

I'll never get the love for the rainbow buttons. I'm the kind of guy who usually loves bright/garish colors on his systems, but I just don't find anything really appealing about red/blue/yellow/green. Purple and lavender is just top-tier aesthetic.

the one on the left is the superior design, but the design on the right isn't bad per se. Just unfortunate. The convex and concave buttons on the controller were a great idea, and the purple was actually a bit classy.

Right, because it's what I grew up with as an American. It wasn't until I was much later did I know Pal/Japan had a different shell. The super Famicom still looks odd to me and I don't have any nostalgia for it or it's colored convex buttons.

The only good thing about the NA version is that X and Y are concave buttons and A and B are convex. It’s such a small thing and I always thought I was weird for enjoying it. I wish other consoles did this afterwards.

Model 2 chad here. I had third-party Interact controllers with the SFC colored buttons, too, so I had the best of both worlds. The NA model 1 and its controller looks great, though, for having that boldness and symmetry in design and colors. The SFC/cucked-yuro one looks kinda kiddy and flat.
