Just got my longbox in the mail, what's everyone's favorite ports? favorite strategies? you go for Jill or Chris?

>> No.6026939

Chris is the "hard" mode, although he can endure more damage than Jill.

>> No.6026971

>> No.6026974

Definitely the Director's Cut version is my pick for best version of the original Resident Evil. Just to be clear, I don't mean the Dualshock Version.

>> No.6026979

I actually like the dualshock soundtrack. Whoever it was that wrote it.

Whats wrong with the dual analog version other than the ugly green case?

>> No.6027165

by hard you mean what exactly? I find more difficult with Jill. Many puzzles are only exclusive of this girl, while Chris needs Rebecca or he just uses his ammo like a terminator.

I use to play the director's cut version, so perhaps that's the difference. But I doubt it

Jill.
She gets two more slots for items and Barry.
Also, hunters can't use stairs so I like to save shotgun ammo by shooting the hunter next to the library with a handgun.

>> No.6027341

Is it true that all long box versions lack aim assist? I anyways knew that shit was harder when I played it than when my non-gamer friends got around to it but I didn't find out about that until after we were all past it.

Also, on a tenuously related note my plan for today is to play Daymare 1998 using an unlimited ammo trainer. Come at me.

I prefer saturn port. Better controller and cleaner ploygon models.

>I find more difficult with Jill.
Jill has a lockpick and grenade launcher, no way.

>> No.6027460

>>6027341
Yes, all longbox copies are the original vanilla English versions of Resident Evil. So no DC content, no aim assist, etc.
And have fun. I didn't enjoy Daymare at all, but maybe it's better with infinite ammo.

>> No.6027479

No auto aim doesnt make that much difference in re1, you never fight more than two zombies at once.
OG has no critical headshots for pistol, directors cut added it and it makes the initial section of the game a lot easier.
Chris is stressful as fuck for a blind run because you need to back track a LOT of you dont know your way around.

>> No.6027559

>>6027343
I prefer Saturn's look overall, though the long door animations and lack of auto-aim make it a chore to play.

I really like the Saturn controller for RE1 over the PlayStation controller. I never felt right doing tank controls on thumbsticks, like playing code Veronica on Xbox I seem to overcorrect when running and I smack into walls like bumper carts

Even then the action of RE2 isn't that strong. The shooting is very simplistic which was fine for RE1 since the depth was more about your decision to fight. That decision making isn't there in RE2 given the level design and resources provided, so it's an action game without interesting shooting.

Not him, but
The average price of all these games (each) is around $20 a piece.
RE Longbox in particular can range up to $70, American Saturn can be $100.
RE2 N64 loose can be $50.
RE2 N64 can range from $100 - $150.
That BIOHAZARD Collector's Edition can hit $100.
Drinks and figures are unknown to me, but generally in the same ballpark.
Wouldn't doubt that this could be sold off for $600. Particularly those Dreamcast copies, the Western ones.
Shame you're missing the following
>Director's Cut (original release)
>Resident Evil (Win95)
>Resident Evil 2 and 3 (Win98)
>post-4 mainline titles
>GCN titles (the real moneymakers when it comes to selling off RE collections)
>the movies on UMD
>CODE:Veronica Kanzenban on Dreamcast
>one of the $3000 Dreamcast consoles that are RE themed

>GCN

>PS3

Comes on one disc in Japan, with BIOHAZARD 4 packed in.
Digital only in other parts of the world.
>360
Identical to PS3.
Came on one disc in Japan, BIOHAZARD 4 was put on a separate disc in the same package.
>PS4

Dude let me thank you for that whole post. Great information.

I used to have a brand new RE outbreak file 2, which I see now goes for 30+
And I used to have apocalypse on psp UMD, I cant foresee that being more than like 5 bucks but that’s how much I bought it for 15 years ago. I plan on getting back the file 2 and Japanese versions of the RE1 directors cut dual shock version? The big case with the mansions main hall as the art. And finally, a pal RE2 also for its art. I’d then put the jap Re1, pal re2, and jap Veronica next to each other in display somewhere they are my favorite RE titles. I also bought RE2Remake shortly after the pic was taken.

I’m not sure if it’s worth getting a GameCube now since all the prices shot up a fuckton recently. I missed my chance. Seeing Kirby air rides prices gave me clinical depression I almost Bing wahoo’d myself off the overpass into oncoming traffic.

I've been trying to figure out the best version of RE1-3 for the past few weeks during downtime between work so I thought I'd post this to help

RE1
- The original us playstation version is to my knowledge the only game that has the original mode with Chris that doesn't have an auto-aim assist, making it the most challenging version. While the PC port has this as well as the uncut intros and skippable door animations, it's not reliable enough to run nowadays. There is a great mod called Classic Rebirth but unfortunately this only runs on the Japanese version, which has auto-aim built into it as well as Japanese difficulty, however you can apparently unlock US difficulty if you complete the game once according to the modder
- There's a great hacked version of the Director's Cut called the "Ultimate Director's Cut" for the ps1 which has the uncut intros and a "deranged" mode which cuts out content making it more of a challenge, it also has a disc 2 which includes a maze mode and a pretty faithful version of the Battle Mode from the Saturn. I wouldn't recommend trying to play the original game through this hack however as the modder has fucked with some of the rooms and you can get yourself locked out. The soundtrack is also the original.
- There's a PSX version with the remastered fmv's and original soundtrack. However, I'd avoid this because the pleb made a new skin for Jill in the arranged mode but fucked it up completely and she just starts ragdolling out when reloading sometimes or when entering rooms

RE2
- Unless you have access to the dreamcast, it is hands down the sourcenext version with the classic rebirth mode. Fixes the broken songs, has a nightmare mode which makes it nigh impossible to go back to the original game because it's way too easy. There's literally nothing any other version of this game has over this unless you like n64 funsies or dreamcast's 60fps

>> No.6045389

>>6045383

RE3
- This one is actually the hardest and a bit of a toss up between DC, GC and PC. The DC has 60fps but harder to get your hands on and backup the data if you ever wanted to keep hold of it. The GC while its base version is shit, is possibly the best version when you have the Seamless HD mod (it looks phenomenal, they did a really good job on it) and is much better than the RE2 counterpart because it doesn't take advantage of the DC/PC features, whereas RE3 on GC is no different to the DC/PC version gameplay wise outside of having to unlock mercs and costumes. It also allows you to turn off auto aim. There is some PC mods to update the backgrounds and models but its a bit finicky and it's awful at setting up a controller for, and auto aim is built in.

In short
RE1 - PS1 for original usa version and director's cut, Ultimate Director's Cut is worthy checking out too, PC if you don't care about DC or auto-aim
RE2 - PC Sourcenext, Seamless HD on GC if you just want it pretty and don't give a fuck about hard mode
RE3 - GC with Seamless HD mod or PC if you can tolerate jumping through hoops

I would love to discuss some Resident Evil classic 1-3. 1 is definitely my favourite game and I prefer it to Rebirth and Remake for a plethora of reasons, any time you try to discuss it on /v/ it just turns into a shitstorm. There's so many little things you can miss in RE1. One of my few issues with the game is I wish that it did have the multiplayer function or controlling both characters, or if they'd reworked the story for both Jill and Chris' path to exist canonically together. It's pretty lazy for Wesker to just throw one in a cell somehow and that's it.

Also unpopular opinion: Wesker should've stayed dead in RE1. He was a dumb cheesy ass villian and bringing him back as a superhero is one of the many things they did wrong with the series. Breaks my heart to see so many fanboys and fangirls for such a pleb tier character.

>> No.6045472

>>6045395
The worst thing they could have done to the series was make it too anime with code Veronica x’s edits, then they kept the over the top shit rolling with 4 and 5 and onward. They should have stayed true to the original 3 games and just went back to a more confined horror approach, like 1, after the more action oriented 2,3,cv, etc. I would have liked, well, essentially zero but, you know, better. Showing more of the mansion grounds and, of course since this hypothetical game would have been released in the 2000s, much better graphics and detail to the og mansion. With the bravo team it’s focus. And just as or maybe a little shorter than the og game since it’s essentially rehashing the first game.

And imagine if they made RE2 remake how the real fans wanted it
