An endgame-tier LCD for the OSSC is usually at least 750 or so

An OLED is over 1000 and doesn't come smaller than 50 inches

My FV310 was free, I play everything I want for PS1/2 free over NAS on my original hardware I bought in 2006 via a FMCB card a friend gave me for... yes, free. And it looks real nice

What's actually more of a mental illness is people who have setups like the one in that pic (I know it's a mockup). They buy a 60"+ tv, but can't or won't sit at the optimal 8+ plus feet away from it. Then they skimp heavily on their sound system, usually resorting to a shitty soundbar or Bose cube speakers because they want to stick with their "clean look." Never mind the fact that when you are sitting 8 plus feet away (if they figured that part out), you need something called extension to faithfully reproduce very dynamic movie and game soundtracks. This requires big speakers, and there's no way around that. No replacement for displacement.

I think it looks better on a CRT. Messed around with a Framemeister and it looks good, but not perfect, comparatively speaking.
It's also easier. The the Mega SG came out, I was looking at a few videos about settings that would make it look the most "correct" and it was such a thing to setup that I ended up springing for a modded Mega Drive 1 instead, since I've been meaning to replace my MD2 for a while now. Just hook it up and it goes. No fiddling with any settings for specific games, it just works.

Most hardware-assisted smooth scrolling from the '90s is just a blur on a LCD because of the differing g2g transition times. Moving text as found in many intros is often difficult to read without strobing on a LCD, and strobing has its own problems. You don't notice as you weren't alive at the time and don't know how different things looked from how they look today.

OSSC or not, CRT's look different. Deepest blacks, that delicious real curve where the image changes depending on where you are looking at it. You can't get those with your LCD/LED panel.

Should everyone get all real hardware? Not unless they want to. But a modded wi or a chipped (or unchipped) PS1/PS2 for instance? totally worth it. If you can get a rasperry pi to output pixel-perfect 480i then sure be my guest. But in the meantime please fuck off.
