i think when emulators were new, using original hardware instead was a viable option because those consoles were still fairly relevant and not taking up that much space in your house, but now their houses are so cluttered with this old crap and it just gets worse with every passing year

yet they're kind of in too deep with it now and have to double-down on their "opinion" that original hardware/a dusty old TV somehow matters because it's also an ego thing, like no one wants to admit that they've wasted their time and money. same reason people still own books (or any paper product), fucking wristwatches, anything that's been rendered obsolete or been consolidated into a different device

so now people nitpick things that don't matter so their existences are validated, like oh fuck this N64 game has a minor artifact? completely unplayable. PS1 sprites now have choppy outlines? this isn't viable at all. input lag? not even close to the window of perceptible difference but sure, play pretend if you wish

This cope from people who live in a closet. The NES is the largest retro Nintendo console, and it's 10 inches by 8 inches, and 3 1/2 inches tall. Sega consoles aren't much bigger, unless you specifically have the 2nd generation Sega CD attached to a 1st generation Genesis with a 32X sticking out of the top. You can literally fit every retro console that exists in a shelving unit that is 2 feet by 1 foot. Literally "2sq ft is TOO MUCH SPACE!" is your complaint here.

Nothing compares to the original hardware, because with it at least you can be sure that everything works as intended with the same limitations you had back when the hardware was new and current. That way you're sure it's exactly what you remember, or did not remember correctly.

To answer your question though, the reason why it makes this board angry is because it's probably a subconscious expression of people's desire for better social dimensions in their gaming experiences. People used to complain about games in person at arcades to make frens too.

See, this is the actual problem. There are literally no collectors who have a problem with emulation. Emulation let's us try games before we buy them, it let's us play games in convenient ways. I even used to like that it allowed younger, more casual people with an interest in retro gashes to play them but now the board is filled with people who are so consumed with inferiority and persecution complexes they're compelled to pre-emptively attack collectors.

For me, I got tired of my games and save files just being a bunch of files on my device, that I will eventually accidently forget or delete. Having a physical cartridge makes me feel like it's not just all for nothing and I'll always have to remember.

Also I can't deal with the input lag on platformers. I really can't. I tried playing SMW on pc emulator vs original and its just not the same.
