What's the most autistic fact you know about a video game/series?

Weird developer rants? Development issues/quirks/fun facts? Conspiracies? Random cheat codes that do weird shit? Stuff that's seen by a niche community as so ubiquitous that it isn't documented, but outside people don't know?

Let's hear your best one!

>> No.6022220

I think I remember seeing some hidden text in the code for Slayers on PC-98 when I looked around for fun. Nothing that interesting I saw, but stuff like the date and a short message.

There's a glitch in Final Fantasy VI that I found before I ever saw it posted online. Still not many results for it. In Cyan's Dream, you can switch the party leader during the Magitek part to keep the Magitek armor sprite outside the dream in towns/dungeons. Saving and reloading removes it, and you don't get it in battles, but it was neat.

I have a couple.

In Pokemon Red/Blue, Great Balls have a higher catch rate than the more expensive Ultra Balls in most situations.

In Super Metroid, Crocomire had no hit points and can't be damaged with beam shots or ammo alone. However, Crocomire's tongue is a separate entity and can be destroyed with Power Bombs. It takes about 95 of them, so the only way too get enough is to use glitches or the Golden Torizo code.

Not an official thing, but fan-made Pokemon gen 1 battle simulators didn't realize for years that secondary status effects like paralysis from Thunderbolt or Body slam don't effect Pokemon with the same type as the move. Correcting this small oversight a few years ago lead to some significant changes in the metagame, because paralysis from Body Slam on Normal types like Tauros, Snorlax, and Chansey was a big factor in battles. I just think it's funny that in nearly 20 years it was never noticed by people that scrutinized the mechanics the most.

Way too much about Plok, nothing mindblowing though.

>pic related was the intended box art, but Tradewest wasn't a fan and remade it in a claymation style

>Plok had a 30 second animation created for it by some local artists as a favor to the devs, intended for commercials. It was never aired and is now completely lost, likely for the best as apparently it wasn't that great

>the 3 "lost levels" for Plok (Brendammi Bog, Breezy Beach, Badream Fens) were never even started; the developers had a vague idea of doing X number of levels that never came to fruition. It wasn't like Sonic 2 where half-finished levels got cut

>the beta had a secret invulnerability cheat code designed specifically for the UK gaming show Bad Influence, which featured it briefly in an episode

>to promote the game, little resin Plok figurines (like the one seen in the game ending screen) were sent out to the American press. Most arrived in rubble due to bad packaging

Probably that Yume Kojo (event and namesake of Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic) intently and officially translates to Dream Machine (and thus Dream Machine: Doki Doki Panic), using the purest definition of "machine", ie, "something used to create". Evolution: The World of Sacred Device was originally for the Sega Saturn before getting bumped up to the Dreamcast. There ARE a few sources that mention this, but the game was previewed in the Japanese Sega Saturn Magazine, which also had a whole bunch of rare concept art. The game and its sequel also had a series of gag comics run in the magazine for a surprisingly lengthy amount of time (the majority of which were reprinted in the sequel's strategy guide). The sequel's website even has fanart that references a few of those comics.
Speaking of concept art there's artwork of both the female lead (Linear Cannon) and the male lead (Mag Launcher) in kimonos; while Linear's is used in quite a few places, Mag's is seemingly only used in one of the Dreamcast/Saturn magazine scans.

In mission 7 of the zerg campaign in Starcraft Brood War you need to destroy a protoss city to capture their matriarch.
To accomplish that you need to destroy 5 pylon clusters located around the city in a star pattern to get rid of the barrier protecting the whole area.
This is a direct reference to Sailor Moon, where Black Moon Clan destroys Crystal Tokyo and corrupts the 5 crystal points which protect it, with the goal of capturing the Queen Serenity.

In Twisted Metal Black, there is a secret special attack which will make one of the characters, Raven (driver of Shadow), do a turret style attack, popping up from the roof of her car and shoot at enemies with a machinegun.
There's two ways to do this attack, the normal way, and the secret way, where she'll do it with her titties out (which is funny because she's 17 and thus underage).
This isn't widely documented last I checked, in fact I had to really dig around to find the code and any mention of it, one place even wrote the wrong input, which almost certainly made people think it was fake.
I think it's so unknown that it might still be in the later digital rereleases (which sadly, all lack the wonderfully super edgy cutscenes), there's zero mention of this on wikis.

>>6022876
Your mom eats my ass.
The Revenant in Doom 2 was originally meant to do a little hop every time he fired a rocket, which was always homing.
This goes in line with John Romero's insistence on the final visual design of the Revenant, because he thought it would be really funny. It's known that their rockets aren't always homing, this is because of a mistake in the code which makes the checks based on if it happens on an even or odd tic. In some of the old console releases, this is fixed and the rockets always home in, though most would say the random element was better.

Pikmin 2 is one of my favourite games and sequels.

It takes place pretty much straight after the first game however seeing as it takes place on a planet that is far away the landscape has changed quite a lot.

The final level is the first and last level of first game mixed together.

Aside from plenty of references to the past game the final dungeon is located where you find your first piece of broken ship from the first game.

I always thought this was a real nice and subtle touch.

I memorized all the enemy and objective locations in Medal of Honor to the point where even if the game gets the weird glitch where the map doesn't render in completely I still complete the level with an excellent rating. The developers originally planned to have gore and blood but it was removed probably to get a safer rating.

In the SOTN port of Saturn there is a lengthy text file from the developers explaining their roles and also expressing how much of a slut it was to port from the PS1 to the Saturn and basically apologizing for being inexperienced but tried to add some fresh things to make it different from the PSX version. They fucked up so bad that, instead of optimizing for the higher resolution, they doubled every 3rd or 4th pixel which stretches all the sprites and background EXCEPT the ones exclusive to the Saturn because they were added post stretching. Alucard also gets a set of boots to run as fast as Richter and the Wing Smash in Bat Form does not have a distance limit allowing you to fly across rooms till you hit a wall or the door to the next room. The Cursed Prison is accessible so early on you gain a broken level of XP from the enemies by just killing them with the bible.

If you deposit 1,000 pokemon from Gen4 into MyPokemonRanch on the Wii you can get a legit Mew that is fully transferrable up to Gen 7, however it will never be Shiny.

On the back cover of Driver: You Are The Wheelman is a Saturn Yellow 1970 Buick GSX that was seen in replays on the Euro Demo Disc #43, it was overwritten with the Chevelle in Miami. In this beta build you could even drive and sink into the ocean. The animation for sinking cars stills exists in the New York level.

The voice of Chris in the original Resident Evil is the same voice as Richter Belmont in SOTN on PS1. He sadly died in a car accident which is a shame because I loved his goofy voice acting.

That always makes me sad. I'm very attached to the voices he did.
I actually really like all the voices in SoTN, because even with the wonky Enlish translation, and presumably having to act out lines in a vacuum, not getting to play of each other or really see the game, they do still sound kinda good, if awkward, the actual voices they do feel appropriate for their characters.
Dracula's voice actor just hams it up, which feels like the most suitable course of action, and actually fits the character.
