How the fuck did I get so much out of these games when I was 9? I used to literally obsess over NES games, but now there's only like a handful I even bother coming back to these days. It used to feel like there was so much content in them. What happened?

>how the fuck did I have trouble with multiplication when I was 5

it's almost like children are mentally undeveloped and even simple things seem deep and complex

the question was rhetorical, anon

It was new to you. Probably the first games you'd seen LPs of. Now, a few summers later at the ripe old age of 12, you've watched all the LPs. Maybe even played all the games you liked watching LPs of.

You certainly didn't write it that way at all smartass.

Your attention span has reduced and it takes more to thrill you. I suppose the instant gratification culture of current year has fried your dopamine receptors.

If it was a rhetorical question it shouldn't have been the thread prompt bro.

This

And this too. There's still plenty of content to be had in dozens of NES games if OP could still just dig it out.

Maybe he's somebody who wants thousand hour endless online experiences but taken as a while the NES library still probably has a thousand hours or more he could squeeze out of it if he could see it the right way.

>I don't like the answer I got therefore I will lie and say it was rhetorical
Why do people do this?

This is absolutely correct. There is a simplicity to older games that I find incredibly pure. The limitations of an NES game sometimes forced developers to create tight experiences in pursuit of refining a single mechanic, or creating an experience in which pacing issues could not be offset by sidequests or additional content. There are plenty of bad games for the NES, but it is a crucial system to play if you are interested in game design or are interested in high-quality, contained experiences.

It's because mom and dad aren't making me psychotically disassociate hard into the colorful blur of the TV (because they're fighting again or shouting at me because their mental illness is playing up) anymore.

It also puts marios bros 3 into perspective. by the standards of the day that was a really fucking big game
