The English translator snuck in some Tolkien names here and there, mostly renaming a few swords and other items. I don't think that's a particularly big deal, though it strikes me as somewhat unprofessional.
Malachi and Cthulhu are two monsters which if you look at them, very obviously had their names swapped. H.P Lovecraft's works may not have been public domain yet at the time, which could be why.

His name is Blaustein and he for whatever reason added Tolkien references. He also added "Necklace of J" after naming it after his son, whose name starts with J. The original Japanese is just "Necklace".
