602008 No.602008 [Reply] [Original]

So I just found out that a couple months ago the creator of The Neverhood has decided to make a "spiritual successor" - and not a direct sequel due to licensing issues with EA - with two colleagues from both Neverhood and Earthworm Jim and with the original musician, and will take it to Kickstarter.

For some reason /vr/ thinks my post with the address is spam - search it, there's tons of links to the subject.

It's a cynical, cruel and terrible time we live in, when the actual creator of your childhood's favorite game has declared that, with no ties to publishers, he's making another game of that kind, and you're relieved to learn THAT HE WON'T TOUCH THE ORIGINAL. I should be disappointed to hear that I won't get the Neverhood 2 (Skullmonkeys doesn't count), not relieved that he can't possibly violate it's corpse like others have done to theirs! also the horrible realization that EA has rights to the Neverhood franchise please don't tell them please don't I'm begging you keep this to yourself please

Your opinions on this?

Just to add, he asks the game's fans ON FACEBOOK of all fucking places to give him suggestions to the game; I don't have the nerve to read through them.

Terry Tailor, if memory serves.
Some time ago he was near bankruptcy and he and his family almost lost their home and he had medical bills to pay, and his fans donated him enough money to make it through. I still listen to the OST from time to time, it has some great pieces.

They're not even the same type of game. Reading through comments on news sites regarding this I realize just how many of them never even HEARD of the original Neverhood and only played Skullmonkeys. Fucking console peasants that don't also play PC, they're the reason PC players get bad console ports and all major publishers design games tailored to console controllers and hardware.

>>606681
You want to know why old fans are cautious whenever new "fans" are coming in? Because more often than not the new fans are younger, from a broader audience and have twisted expectations and assumptions on what video games are and how they should be developed. Think about the new audience Thi4f is addressing and what that does to the game's development and how it harms the series. The reason I'm relieved that it's not a sequel to the Neverhood is because of comments like these >>606813, that would have wanted to make Klayman a female, let Hoborg cover-shoot with Klogg and make Big Robot Bill and Willie gay lovers. These people would have shit all over my beloved childhood memories without even noticing, thinking they're just as entitled to affect the game's developemtn.

>>606997
>Think about the new audience Thi4f is addressing and what that does to the game's development and how it harms the series.

A tryhard publisher funded shoehorning of a dead franchise into something trying to hook the Assassin's Creed crowd, destined for failure, fan alienation and publisher loss because the idiots ruining things there base everything on snake sales man marketing pile charts and out of context focus group tests that ignore fan input, old and new =/= A small kickstarter project made by the original creators of a franchise trying to recapture the same spirit but not above interacting with fans and more than definitely intelligent enough to separate good, creative ideas from the typical internet insanity.

The reason Thi4f, DMC and the like keep happening is because of the publisher run model which does everything to ignore fans (old and new), and not the other way around.
