Why would anyone play a fighting game in single player back then? The input read levels is retarded.

You didn't always have your friends over and it's still good for practising your inputs. No one does SPDs perfect every time with no practice. That's always been the purpose of single player, hone your skills and practice getting ready to play the real game.

>> No.6017190

single player used to have some thought put into it, before you could just go online and fight children 100% of the time

Yeah fighting games were all about fighting your friends. But when it was midweek days and I had no friends over, I'd still play the shit out of SFII by myself. I remember I could only beat the game on 4-5 stars difficulty. Anything more than that, I wouldn't get past Balrog (Claw).
But you still got to get better at mechanics playing alone, that's why I did it so much.

Holy shit thanks for the link.

If anything there's more to single player modes now. Look at the netherealm games.

To kill time.

Btw, a lot of these games can be cheesed due to AI exploits.

story mode and just to play the game if there wasn't a 2nd player around.

This is the real reason not to play in 1 player mode too much once you have all your inputs recorded in muscle memory. It'll teach you bad habits.

If you play a lot, you should be able to 1cc your favorite fighting game easily. The only single player mechanic I ever felt like benefited me was how Soul Calibur has a leaderboard for fastest clear times which really pushed my aggressiveness with Siegfried when there was nobody in the arcade that wanted to get their clock cleaned.

Which makes playing them even more retarded.

There was no practice mode, you had to learn in single player or during matches.

Can't compare to multiplayer, but I always enjoyed playing through and seeing all the different endings. It's fun trying your moves against something other than a training dummy too sometimes.

Truth. I had a friend who would practice and practice and then get super upset when we'd stomp him.

Why would anyone underage post a shitpost right now. The output write level is retarded.

>> No.6018183

Because you wanted to fight against the boss or secret characters. Most of the time that was the only way you were gonna see them.

>> No.6018186

I didn't have any friends, and when I did finally make friends, none of them would 1v1 me because I was too good.

I for one like getting to the final boss in the lowest level and fastest real time in Flash Hiders.

Goddamnit i remember getting into so many fights over stupid games. We never agreed on what to play. That right there is a good reason to stick to the CPU.

Melty Blood is technically retro

I have never once gotten into anything close to a fight over what game to play, that sounds bizarre.

To see the endings, obviously.
