I finally got the Sega Genesis Mini, Now I just need to add more games to it.
Is the C64 mini or Neo-Geo Mini worth getting?
Also kinda hyped for the TurboGrafx-16 mini.

I kinda don't like how the mini-consoles are smaller than controllers. One of (but not only) the reasons why I have full-sized originals. But maybe, maybe I'll get the TG16 Mini.

I was unsure of the $100 price for the TG-16, but with 57 games and 32 of them being Japanese PC Engine releases. Seems werf.

I get that I could put every system on a pie but I like the aesthetic of the mini systems.
I also had this idea when the NES/SNES classics came out of getting a small TV with hdmi inputs or a mini projector, a power strip with usb ports, and throw it in a nice padded bag. And I could take it to family gatherings or parties and be able to set up a little retro gaming corner.

The Neo-Geo one is shit.
A micro PC running MAME would serve you better there. It would actually serve you better everywhere, but the quality of the build of the Nintendo mini consoles and the Gen mini are enough to make buying them NOT a waste. Especially because you get those decent controllers with all three. I use the SNES Classic controllers with my hacked Wii and it's just perfect as a controller.

>> No.6018053

>>6017791
Imma be honest with you. I'm not a fan of the original system either.
Arcade games need arcade cabs and controls and shit to really feel proper.
Otherwise, you might as well MAME. Even the original Neo-Geo kinda lost the arcade magic, even though the system computing hardware was the same between MVS and AES. That's just my opinion.
It's the same for those new downsized little arcade units. They use LCDs and they're too small, even with the risers you can buy.

Even MAME is far from ideal in modern arcade emulation, but MAME serves a purpose and is free so you can't really bitch about it.

Feel free to tell me you disregard the aforementioned message and that I fellate male genitalia if you must.

Zoomer detected.

Don't worry, once you reach your 30s, "parties" will basically be you, your gf/wife, and 3 or 4 of your friends and their gfs/wives playing Cards Against Humanity or Mario Party 8 because that was the last video game your friend bought, and you're drinking Michelob Ultra or your friend's home-brewed beer he's worked on for the last little while but it's not too strong because you have to drive home later. And maybe when the wives aren't around you and the guys just reminisce about the old days when you used to play Smash or Goldeneye and all wonder aloud where the time has gone, and you don't actually play video games you just talk because you haven't seen each other in months.

Ugh. I hate these things. It's such a bullshit scam to give consumers the illusion of playing "the real thing." The only way you're getting the real thing is by buying the source system and collecting for it. >> No.6025441

>>6025307
Unlikely: there's a lot less demand for N64 stuff, a lot of 2nd party games from Rare and Factor 5 wouldn't be on here (not to mention licensed games), it'd be more expensive to play with 4 controllers and Nintendo doesn't seem to do much with these mini consoles anymore since switch online launched. Not that I wouldn't support it though.

Not him but they do eliminate some of the hassle of switching cartridges/disks, plus with piracy you don't have to pay much for a large library of games. It's just one initial investment for the mini console, then you can download whatever games you want and flash them on. That does take away some of the fun of hunting for the physical games you want at thrift and retro game stores or ebay though.

I'd say it's the other way around. Both the 3 and 6 button Mega Drive/Genesis controllers are widely praised as being some of the best controllers ever made/and I for one agree. But you're entitled to your opinion Anon.

>> No.6029102

Different anon chiming in. Never had Sega stuff as a kid cause I wasn't even aware of them and I was too much of a nintendo fanboy to look beyond nintendo and playstation games. I tried the 3 button controller a few times and while it wasn't really bad or anything considering it got released between the SNES and the NES I'm still glad they got a 6 button version of it later on and for the Saturn.

I mean, the buttons are big and you won't accidentally hit the wrong one with its lay-out but it also feels a little awkward if you need to push different buttons because you gotta move your thumb a little more. That being said, I do believe that Sega D-Pads feel better to do circle motions with unlike SNES and Playstation Directional inputs. I don't know if I'd prefer the 6 button MD controller or the 2D Saturn one.
