For example in the earlier generations of Sega/Nintendo rivalry it seems:

SMS had basically the same types of games as the NES, just less of them.

Genesis had more sportsball and arcade ports and SNES had more RPGs and PC ports.

Fifth gen is where it really diverges: Saturn had tons of shmups, (S)RPGs, and fighters, but few FPSes, 3D platformers, and racing games. N64 was the opposite.

I don't know how this plays out for Dreamcast and its rival. Fill me in if you can.

did you just imply the Dreamcast and the Gamecube were competitors? mama mia

That's faggy because the Saturn had Sega Rally, Daytona Champion edition, Manx TT Superbike and tons other Japanese exclusives.

Sonic Adventure 2

You do know the Dreamcast was discontinued before the Gamecube even released right? Either way I'd say the Gamecube had a stronger library, but that's mostly do to the premature death of the Dreamcast and Sega porting a huge chunk of their library to other consoles after going 3rd party.

Letting /vr/ discuss Dreamcast is the biggest mistake I've ever seen 4chan make.

Likely this.
This predates /vr/ but remember the era when even the PS1 wasn't considered retro? (But the Saturn was lol)
Those were much simpler times.

Very different library. The DC was arcade game oriented. The games were loud, vibrant - not really at all like what you found on the GC. Sega's machine really did feel like an arcade at home.

I do, it wasn't so long ago.
>(But the Saturn was lol)
Things that never happened.

One is retro and the other, like you, isn't.
