The dopamine rush I get when I hear MM6 music is incredible

Depressing for me.

It's so magical... I wish I were 14 again exploring in a fantasy forest.

I guess it COULD be depressing for me, because I also got into this game when I was 14. But the prospect of making a MM6 clone from scratch keeps it happy for me.
I'm trying to make a clone but choosing an option to implement it has been a tough choice. I'm torn between using C++ with DirectX, or Java with the LWJGL (for better portability).
I don't want to use Unity because it's overkill for what I want to do, and they take a cut if you make something successful. Plus I'm skilled enough that I could write the engine in C if I wanted to (but prefer the modern niceties of C++, like exception handling).
Luckily I've written the GLSL shaders for the MM6 style terrain already and I can use those with whatever package I end up going with. I just need the momentum with ONE approach and I'll be able to get a lot done. I'm just so indecisive about how I want to get things rolling.

Even getting it to look like this HD version of MM7 would be amazing

That looks great. I'm talking about making a brand new game entirely with the same feel as MM6/7/8 though.

Everything I like about this game seems like it was an accident.

Also, what would it take for a mod to get rid of the horrendous UI?

I think the Greyface patch makes the UI smaller at least?

Probably not that easy, a big UI is only like that on games because of the limitations of the main screen and how a system could not handle full screen. It will be built into the game and removing it to see more of the screen is likely to require a big change.

Daggerfall had a minimalist UI option at least

Do you want any help? I know some programming but just haven't learned UI yet.

Not yet, I'll probably reach out for help once I get to a certain point. It's also more of a learning experience for me.

You seem to be alright. Here's an email I sometimes use for later just because I dislike losing means of contact. I'm sure this could be a mistake. billny3@yandex.com

I dunno, when I was a kid I enjoyed MM6 more when I didn't know what the hell I was doing. Even if I gave myself bad stats I had a lot of fun grinding and setting small goals (and savescumming which to me is a fun mechanic in itself)
