Just ordered one of these bad bois for some retro gaymen. They’re much faster than a raspi, cheaper and have far more apps available. They also play android games ofc and have Plex/Netflix/Hulu/Disney. The one pictured here plays up to Dreamcast/Saturn fine. It’s not far from a Shield performance wise. And they’re $32 on AliExpress right now. Just thought I’d say something before someone wastes money on a Pi when devices like this or a used PC are cheaply and readily available that are built for this purpose. Oh yeah, it has 240p output that isn’t noisy as fuck too.

Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself that you didn't burn money away like a good goy.

This is my second one of these boxes. Last time I posted something about it it seemed like most people didn’t even know this was an option. It’s a lot better for playing games. Something the raspi just isn’t really well suited for

It’s like you didn’t even read the post or actually lookup the product, Wii can’t play N64 and up. Android boxes can. It outputs composite or component in addition to HDMI. All of these boxes do

How many emulators have been optimized for the Vontar Android 9.0 Global version's hardware? None? You mean when you run real benchmarks in side emulators it's going to have worse performance even though it technically has faster hardware and you just cucked yourself? Oof.

>> No.6005690

That's fucking cheap. Is it stable enough for longer emulation sessions, and is it powerful enough for CRT filters?
Post an update when you've tested it, please.

I have one already, I’ve never turned it off. It just stays on plugged in downstairs and is usually used for Plex. But it works fine for however long you want to play it for. I ordered another one to put in another bedroom for netflix and stuff. I prefer it to a Roku and when my son and his friends all want to play Minecraft we have a ton of devices that are up for that.

>>6005683
It runs the emulators far better and is technically much faster with a similar power consumption. The raspberry pi is not designed for gaming and it’s stupid people buy it as an emulation device. It’s poorly suited to the task. Look up any AMLogic s905x2 videos and you can easily verify it’s performance. The same board with different memory configurations is used in many devices. This thing is not a unique device by any means, just a generic android box for gaming and as a media device.

>> No.6005715

>>6005690
And filters work fine on it. Don’t buy the very cheapest one though! Make sure you buy one with DDR3 memory or better. Poor memory speed can really cripple these devices. The T95Q is inexpensive, has solid heat spreaders applied and quality memory. So it’s a good all around package

Lol it looks like it doesn't even have bluetooth...
How are you going to use bluetooth controllers?

>> No.6005761

>>6005726
I won’t? If you want Bluetooth I guess you could plugin a Bluetooth adapter. Android has pretty solid driver support for generic BT adapters. I just use these RF wireless afterglow PS3 controllers I have though. Wired PS2 controllers work fine too.

I don’t really know why you’d want to use Bluetooth controllers anon. If you’re that hard up for Bluetooth controllers you can just buy the version with Bluetooth or buy a $1 adapter and plug it in.

>>6006123
Yes, it decodes 4K fullspeed which is really nice for such an inexpensive device. My Roku ultra has trouble keeping up with a lot of 4K rips so I bought this to try it out and it works fantastic. Hence why I’m buying a second one. The UI also controls well with a direct input game pad.

>They’re much faster than a raspi,
Not for emulation. They may be good devices for playing video but they're suicide for emulation and you are rightly getting crucified.

I have a question - do they have hardware-dedicated video-decoding? If not they're pieces of shit that will slowdown and have massive problems with multiple recordings in HD or picture in picture.

>> No.6006131

>>6006129
Yes they do. And I can’t play Dreamcast on my raspi. But it runs fine on this so I don’t know where you get that from. Raspberry Pis are not made for emulation or even gaming. What’s happening is people are commenting that haven’t even used these types of devices and being idiots

I found a similar box that runs an allwinner cpu and a mali t720 gpu. Wouldn't that be a better buy?

>> No.6006154

>>6006143
The Allwinner H6 has worse performance but as long as the ram is DDR3 or better it should be good. Just don’t get an RK3319 box. The AMLogic S905x2/x3 is the best performing android CPU in a device under $100. Which is what this has. This also has a Mali T720. Like with anything else read what youre getting and pay attention to specs, ram speed can be really crippling in these devices. For example my DDR2 RK3288 box while older still outperforms the newer RK3399 and 3319 boxes because of ram speed alone. It just only outputs 720p and has 2.4ghz WiFi because it’s kind of old.

You can use any controller. There’s been multiple posts that discuss the performance of this hardware. Can you not look up the Redream compatibility list or something? It doesn’t have issues running things at fullspeed so there’s no need to discuss individual game performance. Just see what games work with your desired emulator.
