Forgot which Zelda game it was but I was stuck like an idiot for a good while because between all of the Zelda games it was the only one where you didn't need a bracelet or such to pick up rocks, it was just a default ability. Zelda is so lazy with it "puzzles" that it conditioned me to wait until I get the exact item to solve the "puzzle" that was built around it.

Probably the most obtuse puzzle in the series.
You're supposed to retrieve an orb from a dungeon. Picking up the orb shuts off all exits and prevents you from teleporting out.

You have to give the orb to one of your hirelings and dismiss the hireling. Then you rehire the hireling back in town and the orb will still be there in his inventory.

This is the actual solution to the puzzle, and it's part of the main quest.

The final level in pic related.

You have to build a bridge across a stretch of water by pushing some blocks into it. Fair enough, you've done that a bunch of times before. But a bunch of the blocks have fires under them, so that when you push them, you die. There is no way to know in advance which ones have fires, nor means of protecting yourself form them. It's just a massive trial and error "puzzle".

What games legit have more clever puzzles than Zelda though? I genuinely can't think of much which consistently have better thought out and creative uses for your abilities, and seeing these brainlets call the original LoZ a *bullshit guide seller* just shows how low IQ people who think they're hot shit are.

La Mulana is pretty much the only thing I can think of that's the equivalent of Zelda, but more hardcore puzzle wise.

Worst part of that puzzle is the game expects you to use hirelings enough to know you can put shit in their inventory and dismiss, and it will still be there the next time you see them. Outside of making the Class quests a bit easier on yourself, there isn't much reason to use hirelings since they cost money you could use to level up instead. Still love M&M2.

>In RPGs, mazes with looping passages
I'm glad I had the subscription to NP when I played Dragon Warrior 2, otherwise I would have probably never gotten out of the cave to Rhone. Probably wouldn't have had the crests either.

Usually every graphical adventure game has a few absolute bullshit puzzles. One I remember stopping me cold as a kid was in Police Quest's VGA remake. At one point you end up stopping some guy on the road, and the car comes back as stolen. So you call for backup. All just following procedure, right? Well, once backup arrives and takes up position and aims at the driver, you need to get out of the car and then aim at the driver and order him out of the car. So you open the door and get out of your car. The driver hops out and shoots you dead, then gets shot by your backup. You try to order him out while still in the car, the game doesn't let you. You shoot the driver, you lose the game. Apparently the trick is to use your gun on your own door, which is how you tell the game you want to use your door as cover. The game doesn't tell you this, and you never do it prior or after.
