who's your main?
For me, it's Gohan.

None because DBZ fighters were pure shit to mediocre until Super DBZ on PS2.

Yeah, not retro but it's the truth.

I disagree.
Some were bad, but Super Butoden 2 is still a classic that can be enjoyed perfectly. Butoden 3 and Buyu Retsuden are also fine Butoden games.
Hyper Dimension is also pretty good, maybe more on the graphics side as I don't think gameplay was as good as Butoden, but still a serviceable fighting game.
About the 6th gen games onwards, I wasn't a big fan of the "cel shaded" style of 3D graphics in them, but some were good... still Super Butoden 2 remains my favorite DBZ fighting game.
But if you don't like them that's okay, this thread is for people who like and play this game, or other retro DBZ games.

Hyper Dimension was good.

Clunky crap.

>Hyper Dimension was shit
Agreed, especially with the half second delay with each input. It's a meme game thanks only to its sprite work.

Yeah, I love Buyu's even shittier controls and ugly sprites. Butoden 3's lack of any single player story mode was also nice.

Hyper Dimension and Butoden 2 are solid. I like Super DBZ a lot, though, despite some big issues it's more fun to me than DBFZ.

This is so wrong, it hurts. Super DBZ was an arcade game first.

I love Super DBZ on PS2, but FighterZ is OK, and i have a soft spot for SB2 and Hyper Dimension

What's clunky about it? The game can get pretty hectic, especially with the turbo mode.

Buyu Retsuden's controls are not as good as Butoden 2 or 3, but they're still serviceable, and makes up with having a nice roster of characters including the likes of Ginew and Krillin which weren't on the SNES games.
Butoden 3's lack of story mode is infamous, but honestly that's not the biggest complaint I have about it, my main problem with Butoden 3 is some of the nerfs they did, although they also improved some stuff, in some regards makes gameplay even faster than on Butoden 2.
Another complaint is the few stages (just 4, with many recolors). But as a VS fighting game it still works pretty well, I played it a bunch.

I know opinions tend to be divisive with some DBZ games, a lot of people swear this thing that "all DBZ fighting games were bad until the PS2!" which I disagree wholeheartedly with. I can sort of see how Butoden games can seem "clunky" or slow at first, but when you learn how to actually play the games (and even better, if you have friends who also know how to play the games), they are honestly very unique and live up to the DBZ spirit of crazy fights.

I remember there being a Dragon Ball game on the Super Famicom. My best friends big brother beat the game, despite the language being Japanese and him not being able to read it. There was a top down view for flying around the world map and fights were handled by selecting...cards? I think the cards were moves and there was a bluffing element to the selection of cards. Wish I knew the name of that game.

The controls are laggy as hell and the frame rate is constantly dropping. Have you played any other fighting games?
