I honestly never noticed it's ever so slightly faster than on the real game boy if it wasn't because I read it on the internet many decades later. Maybe if it was slower it'd annoy me, but I honestly still can't notice.

Most people complaining about the timing don't even notice it anyway, they just parrot what they've read online.
In fact, I doubt most people mentioning it own either a DMG or a Super Game Boy.

anyway, most people play with like 2x speed on emulators all the time, the very slight faster timing on super game boy is very hard to perceive unless you do a side-by-side comparison, and even then.

The pitch raises when you speed up an emulator, dummie

>> No.5981050

>>5981039
That doesn't always happen when you fast forward or speed up. For example, in one version of Bsnes the FF function increased the pitch for the time it's active while in a later version you don't even hear a pitch change.

>> No.5981064

name a single good super gameboy game ill wait

>> No.5981065

>>5981050
I meant with the Super Game Boy. The pitch is shifted higher, as it is when you speed anything up digitally without pitch-correction. So yes these things are quite directly and obviously related. Occurs the same in shoddy sped-up PAL releases like SMB NES.

The password system isn't enough? I mean yeah a save feature would be nice, but they already stuffed an entire gameboy into that cartridge, adding battery-backed SRAM just for palettes doesn't make a lot of sense economically.

>allow user custom palette
>still go the extra mile by adding really tasteful color palettes to each game released after the SGB came out
Link's Awakening default palette is an absolute delight, I tried using different palettes and sometimes it works for dungeons or certain regions of the map, but the default green palette is just perfect, like the way it was "intended" so to speak.
Also the Pokemon games got the best palettes that even change according to towns, and the pokemon are actually colored. It's also my favorite way to play these games because of these palettes.

Even Pokemon Gold and Silver, which were released in 1999, way after the SNES was relevant went all the way with not only borders, but pokemon palettes and all. Of course it's hard to argue it's the best way to play them since the palettes are very limited compared to the GBC, but it's still cool.

What's the advantage of the Japan-only hardware iteration of the SGB?
Is it literally just the fixed crystal oscillator and link cable port? Who actually uses any of that shit except Pokemon nerds?

The waxing over the Super Game Boy is a strange message board zeitgeist. I had an SGB as a kid, used it maybe five times, then sold it or pawned it or something.

The Gold/Silver palettes is a close approximation of the Gameboy Color's palettes. SGB has some differences that make them not exactly the same (most notably the title screen logo) but Gold and Silver look great on the SGB.

>> No.5983648

>> No.5983717

>>5983635
The SGB can only assign palettes to each tile of the output image. It has no knowledge of the tiles/sprites the gameboy actually makes the image out of. It works fine for coloring static screens and regions you know are static (like the pokemons in a battle) but any scrolling screen or moving sprites is hard to do much for. Outside of battles G/S looks way more colorful on GBC.
