This is the best RTS of its time and there is nothing that can convince me otherwise.

- no annoying base building, hectic action from minute one
- no resource harvesting, time and territory is all that matters
- good AI for its time
- battles are short, usually 10-20 mins - great for multiplayer
- awesome style and hilarious cutscenes

Way better than the major competitors at that time, C&C:RA or Starcraft. AI will check for unprotected sectors and attack those. If the player does not micro-manage tank fights and snipers, AI will fuck him up.

It's a great game, sort of a predecessor to DoW1 as far as zone control goes. It's also quite nice to play competitively since it is symmetrical. It's lacks a bit of variety, however. Units do not complete each other in a rock, paper, scissors sort of way, they're just more powerful versions of each, i.e., if you start playing the game with heavy tanks unlocked, there's little reason for you to build light tanks. If you start with lasers unlocked, there's no reason to build psychos and so on. Lower tier unit should have their perks that make them useful even in later games.

Perhaps then. All I remember is the pathing of my own units being God awful. I do love the game though

The unit design is far from perfect and its kind of sad that the very weak units are practically useless in the advanced levels. For the medium-tier units, I disagree:

Light tank rushs are an established tactic that works really well, given the fact that 3 lights are produced in the same time as one heavy. A single heavy ofc can turn the entire game around. Light tanks are also very important in the early game when one cannot wait for a heavy to be built. And they simply move faster.

With robots, I tend to use snipers in single player. But there, Grunts and Toughs are really shit. Its really only lasers and snipers that make sense to me. An APC full of Lasers or Snipers is a shitton of fun.

I sort of agree, one had to take care of the own units very much. Probably on purpose, because bitmap brothers always made hectic arcade style games. I was really talking about computer enemy behaviour when bringing up good AI.

It's really good, and honestly does a better job of communicating what's required of the player than any later RTS ever has.
