The company is currently defending these on twitter since people are bashing it.

I assume they acquired the rights, but nevertheless I don't really know who these are for. I'd think most videogame collectors would prefer good condition CIB copies of the original release, and most others will be satisfied with that upcoming collection.

It's licensed by Disney, so legally it's fine with them considering iam8bit is also making a special edition of the Switch Disney collection. These repros aren't officially licensed by Nintendo and Sega but they don't really care since they're dead platforms.

Probably testing to see if they can latch onto the same kind of dipshits who buy reproduction VHS tapes, new vinyl pressings of albums that you can find vintage copies of everywhere, etc.

If this was like, say, a high quality repro cart of a sought after game like Wily Wars then i would've understood this.
But these are 27 year old Disney licensed games that weren't even made by Capcom, i don't get why they would make something collectable and limited out of two games nobody asked for.
Also why is the Aladdin cartridge trasnparent red instead of transparent blue, you know, to reference the Genie?

I'd argue that it's much easier to find new 180 gram vinyl for less than a dirty and scratched original. A lot of original mixes are better, but it's about convenience honestly. I'm not defending these cash grab repros, just saying it's not entirely the same with records. In some circumstances it makes sense to get a new record.

>> No.5969141

I'm surprised Limited Run Games didn't do these Disney repros considering they have the Star Wars repros on their website.

It’s pointless to buy an analog copy of a digital recording unless you’re sampling or DJ’ing

>> No.5969356

>unless you’re sampling or DJ’ing
And even in that regard vinyl has become useless considering how most DJs use digital media players for their sets nowadays. For sampling you don't even need vinyl per se, you could just record something from whatever source you want to as long as the quality of the recording is good enough.

Man you people are predictable. This is now, what? The 5th game to get this limited-reprint treatment? There's been Street Fighter 2, Mega Man 2, Earthworm Jim, and maybe another one I'm forgetting, and yet you people REEEEEEEEEEEE about it the exact same way every single time. At least that adds something by making it a combo cart. Do these Disney ones add anything? Maybe they should've made some carts of the prototype versions that are out there of those games, or make them as multi-carts, since that would at least make a "new" official release and be something that people won't already have on an original cart besides owners of the original prototype PCBs.

I dislike collectors, but I'd prefer to give most of them credit for knowing better than this level of bullshit. This is like the Cheetahmen (how you spell that) scam except at least in those developers actually did some work and finished the game.

Anyone who buys this should unironically have a court order that all their money gets handed over to a responsible next of kin to be managed by them for their own good, because they obviously have no concept of the meaning of money.

There is some value in buying these repros if the original is rare and indeed more expensive than the repro, like the Metal Storm one currently on preorder, for example.
