Heals you, and can use life apples.

Hits switches and can hit for high damage. And also hit for elemental damage.
>Sword
Spins around barely hitting anything. However can output high damage. And sword brothers are op.
>Bat
So when you are a bat you can have many bats who mimic you. Good for cheesing, but the game is not hard enough to warrant that.

Ghost is the worst. everyone else is viable.

Bottom left: In Slavic mythology, Agunea is the youngest son of Svarog, a fire god often equated with Hephaestus. Agunea's role is to purify and protect the righteous with flames from "heaven", which in Castlevania is interpreted as lightning.

Bottom right: The Vibhuti is based on the Hindu Vibhuti, which are blessed, scented ashes of the dead (not necessarily human). Vibhuti receptacles are worn for prayer and blessing, and ingesting the ashes is said to cure a variety of ailments. Because of these parallels, Vibhuti is often considered the Hindu equivalent of Holy Water.

I always figured the lightning one is supposed to be some sort of gun. Also it's not actually that bad, because if you hold down attack with it, you'll continue making contact with your lightning, which though expensive in hearts, does pretty alright damage.
The powder one is supposed to be like holy ashes or something, functionally very similar to holy water, though it doesn't seem to have the same damage output.

Playing on Luck Mode, I found that the Stopwatch was incredibly useful, because Alucard stays very fragile for most of the game, and the window you get with timestop is a great opportunity for casting spells or healing yourself.
It's expensive in hearts, but I also don't use it a lot, so I'm never too short on them when I really need it.
Works on some bosses, not others.

It winds up being a bit of a voice actor joke-- in Japan, he's voice by Joji Yanami (King Kai from DBZ, among other roles). Since the primary sub role of the Demon is to push the button, and it's voiced by him, they made the Nose Devil... which is made to evoke Boyacky, the character from Yatterman who frequently pressed the buttons of the giant robots the evil team used in the show. His catch phrase "Pochittona", said whenever he'd push a button, even gets said by the Nose Demon in the Japanese language version of the game.

It's not really until a bit into the inverse castle that I feel he's durable enough, has enough strength, and have a good enough weapon that I can get really serious about melee combat, and that's against the much stronger and much meaner monsters there.

I had lots of fun with Luck Mode, and I think I'll want to give it another go.

Either I fucked up and got the familiars too late, or they should've introduced them earlier on. They kinda seemed like a pointless, tacked on bonus that was given once they'd become mostly pointless, beyond whichever one it is that can heal you. The switch pressing was an OK implementation and the room finding can be helpful, but it would've been nice to have the combat abilities of the familiar back when they could actually help, and have the leveling up feel more organic as you played through the game. Again, maybe I fucked up since I've only played the game through one time.

My god man, he's weak but he isn't that weak. I generally go Punch/Baselard only on Luck Mode until I hit the Alucart set as you can attack much faster and and aren't left as open to attacks. The jacked up luck makes random crits hit like a truck to balance out the otherwise low damage and also lets you do goofy shit like killing the spiked balls in the Royal Chapel really easily. You hold out the knife close to the ball and it will tick away 1 damage until a crit or two crit blows them up and will powerlevel the fuck out of you really fast early on, although that's kinda cheating

From what I think I understand in the CV lore, Maria's power was given to her by Shaft, but Richter saved her before she could be brainwashed and she ended up using that power to defeat Shaft and Dracula instead. I figured that shadow attack was that bit of his evil essence still residing in her soul, which would fit with how the cut SotN ending sounds like Shaft is taking control over Maria through it.

Why do they help him, guys? Aren’t they all Dracula’s demons? The faeries know him by name, do they just remember him and want to help?

I think that's just her Stand. It's unironically a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure reference.

Not fully loyal to Dracula, or Alucard can win a very rare few over.

This is the most useless kind of contribution to any discussion on any subject and it shows up in all of them.

Did the classicvania collection on switch do well enough for a sequal?
SotN would probably sell really well on the switch

If any of this is true, I wonder why Nihon-purists don't whine about?

Didn't Alucard grow up inside Castlevania? They're probably just friends of his.

fuck, i just remembered that i was autistic with this game on my PSP and i got the max percentage possible and i maxed out the blood blade and i maxed out every familiar and literally everything was maxed out.
Now my PSP is dead and if i want to play again i'll have to start over on the PS4, im fucking sad bros.

There's no guarantee that SotN would be in a second collection or on Switch. So far it's been a Sony only thing (minus the SS port in 1998), and there is already a double pack rerelease with SotN on it.

SotN was released on X-Box Arcade years ago

My bad I forgot about that one, it was a very dry sendup mostly similar to the PSX game except with the ending song changed. Anyway I'm just saying that the Rondo/SotN double bill that Sony seems to have a hardon over (exclusive to PSP and PS4) would make SotN in another pack kind of superfluous.

No, I mean it's an example of a reference before that became a "meme." The series was super popular at the time and Maria makes a being that looks similar to her, but isn't identical, in clothing that fits her form but doesn't look particularly evil or threatening. It punches the heck out of her foes then disappears. Also, the sprite was changed to be some 2D sprite in red, reminiscent of a Final Fantasy Red Mage, for the Dracula X Chronicles.

Holy rod also has an input for extra Jesus as you put it, but if you pause the game at the right moment, you can see a little graphic of some saint or angel or something. Input is back-forward-attack.

You can have him on the PSP version, which is why it's the preferred version of SOTN (also having Wakamoto as Dracula with english subtitles instead of meme dub)

Still needs enemies to practically stand still, still does shit damage, and you can farm a weapon that gives Soul Steal charges off the big sword spirits in the Reverse Colisseum.
